I have had the good fortune to enjoy around ten Ferraris over the last fifteen or so years and i am pretty sure i never made any money on any of them .But tell you what i have had out of them great fun ,big smiles on my face every time i drove and raced some of them ,made lots of friends because of them ,great enjoyment looking after them and pleasure taking other people out in some of them that are less fortunate than me . I work hard and struggle like most over some of the bills ect. I never worry about depreciation although i try and buy carefully The one thing that does irritate me a little is when people bang on about it and possibly have never experianced the pleasure you get and can share owning such a car There is a true saying "whats the point of being the richest man in the graveyard"

    Just my twopennith RAY360M

Well said Ray - very well said indeed - not wishing to malign Dale but how do you feel about his use (or apparent lack of it) of your old 348 ?

    As my signature sometimes says

:) See you down the road - with huge grins on both our faces :)

Good call Ray, but it is something that most people have to consider. One of my main arguments when convincing my missus about the 328 was that the depreciation would be minimal. I could not afford to drop £20k on a weekend car, I lose enough on the daily driver.

I agree to a point, but i'm not in the financial bracket where I could afford to buy one Ferrari after another or have 2 at any one time so depreciation does become a factor when looking to trade in or selling to upgrade. No way would I ever, even if I could afford to, go and buy a late 360 or a 430, i might as well go and burn my money in the back garden or even worse give it to Steve F's pie supplier

But on saying that I whole heartedly agree that you should not worry about the depreciation while owning a a Ferrari as it is an experience that will live with you forever and I am one of the fortunate ones who have been able to fulfill my dream.

Anyway its not the depreciation, its keeping the bloody thing on the road where you need deep pockets. At least when you buy the car you know what the cost is.

'Oh you need a new clutch and clutch hydraulic assembly, that will be 3000 quid please'........ouch! Thats what hurts, but its a Ferrari and thats part of the 'enjoyment'.

I hope to have the pleasure of owning a Ferrari for many years with a view of upgrading sometime to a 355, but unfortunately, I have to look at depreciation, but, bloody hell, I don't worry about it for god's sake, I own a Ferrari!!

True to a point... I love my 355, but it still irks me to think how much value it has lost.

That is more my fault than its, i.e. don't buy from a main dealer unless you like giving money away, do pick a saleable colour combo, and don't buy a late car for more money as after a short time the value is determined by mileage and condition. Also, the longer I keep it, the more acceptable the ££ lost per year becomes.

I was grumbling about it the other day to my Dad, and he said "well think of it as a really bad investment- and I bet you've had a lot more fun in your 355 than you've ever had with a badly performing share..."

I've stopped worrying about it now!

I've just took a bit of a slating on the F430 depreciation thread for daring to say whats being said on here. i.e. Don't buy a Ferrari if your'e worried about depreciation, and as Omega Steve said its the repairing the buggers that really hurts!

P.S. Before anyone starts with the more money than sense theme, the Ferrari took every last spare penny I had to buy, and then some.

Had to raid the swiss bank account to buy the Tubi...:D
