Not a Schumacher fan, actually anything but...That said, if the press conference is anything to go by, it does not look good to the other contenders. Like Marilyn Chambers surrounded by a bunch of schoolgirls.

There's a caption contest waiting to happen! Good find!

They all appear to be somewhat *terrified*...... [Justifiably so IMHO - He is the best there's ever been after all ;)]

I believe it was at this interview where Schuey said he is a little rusty on one lap runs. It appears Mercedes new downforce pacakge is doing its job well though.

The thing that strikes me about the pic is that MS has the look of a champion surrounded by underlings, he is the absolute focal point of the pic and is the dominant figure that everything revolves around. It is fascinating to examine the body language of those around him...

MS seems at ease with himself and confident, whereas the others look uncomfortable and uneasy (Massa especially looks insecure with the expression and hunched shoulders). FA looks like he's looking up at his big brother and Hamilton looks like he can't take his eyes off of MS like he can't believe he finally has a chance to measure himself against a legend (which he is). Except for Button who looks like he's just comfortable hanging out.

But then again you should bear in mind that this is a snapshot in time and may not even capture the atmosphere.

    ...then again maybe it might.

2010- The Return of the King.

Whether you love him or hate the way he has attained his accomplishments, you have to give respect to the man for his prodigious talent, intelligence, leadership, and most importantly, the massive amount of work he has put in to earn his success.

I would say there's about a 95% chance of him winning a victory this year and more than an even shot that he'll lift the crown...

Many a horse looks like a winner out of the gate. Let's see how this one does over a distance.

If it was a one-shot deal like a SuperBowl then I might worry, but with an entire season for MS to help develop the car and mold the team to his liking I really don't see how MS would fail.

He has a history of intense preparation and would not compete unless he KNEW he was able to compete for the ultimate prize.

I believe his time in the car and being almost instantly on the pace reassured him that he had made the correct choice.

It was great having him in the Scuderia, it will be a nightmare to compete against him on a well-funded, well-led team (Mercedes). Somehow that familiar red helmet just doesn't look right in a silver cockpit. Ashame he couldn't race this year in a red one...

Yes I agree, I have to admit I wasn't sorry to see him leave F1 but the buzz he has created returning is fantastic.

My mind has changed he will be WDC contender this year..................I Fink..

Cool photo. Looking forward to a very interesting season.

Only one quibble, the Kaiser is Franz Beckenbauer not Schumacher.

OK, my caption for the contest:

"Schumacher farts during press conference- reactions mixed"

Look at the pic again and see if you agree!

My concern is how Mike holds up over the long run. He's been away, he's been hurt and he's a bit old.

Right Dave I think so too. As you said, it will be interesting to see where he is physically after this weekend and beyond. Especially a race this is as physically demanding (hot as hell) as Bahrain. Let's pray that a corner like Eau Rogue doesn't kill Shumi's neck.

i don't think Alonso sweats Schumi one bit...
it was Schumi who had the better car in '06, yet Alonso wore the crown.
everyone remembers the blown motor in Japan...
but it was the three times that that Schumi dropped the car that made the difference.
Alonso didn't put a wheel wrong all season.

i think Alonso is very comfortable racing against Schumacher...
the others ? ...maybe not so much.

Oh I am too...as a relative newbie to F1, this will be the first time I've ever gotten to see him race live. I'm rooting for him as much as anyone. But I am also a realist (something I think we have in common ;) ) Still, the added drama makes me watch him ever more closely.

FYI, the 2006 Ferrari had engine/piston issues in the first half of 2006. Only after Canada, MS and Ferrari made a comeback.
