Wow - great ideas. I am worried about oil stains on polished concrete so I was thinking car park type paint to seal the concrete. My office is regarded as a rather cool art gallery so I am under some pressure from my friends to do something unusual. Your ideas are much appreciated. I am thinking about calling the premises "Galleria Modena" and it will have an art flair as I am a collector of Chinese contemporary art and I will have a painting area. Many of the top artists is China are petrol heads and I suspect that there will be lots of hanging out at my garage

Thank you everyone for your posts. Another meeting with my architect on Tuesday. Hope to start construction by the end of the month. Ground floor industrial space is not cheap on the southside of Hong Kong Island so this is a really big luxury. Can hardly wait to get everything together

shop carefully for your lifts. I have seen a few fail, even at a corvette car show where the lift was being demonstrated. Saving a few dollars (yen) while holding up such valuable toys may not be the best way to go. My mom always said you can buy quality once or junk over and over. PS I am a fire protection engineer and could help you with some ideas and specifications on a fire alarm and sprinkler system. Have fun.

how about a web cam? so yah can check in from work / show off from work. I have a wireless link set up between the house and the garage so I can get my internet radio and email while working on the cars. Also have a web cam with built in motion detection that will email me pictures if it detects a certain amount of motion in a given time.

also.. Pest control? a cat that respects cars?

Webcam is a given! Unfortunately I am unemployed so it is hard for me to show off at work. I travel a lot and it is great to keep an eye on everything and make sure that my driver is doing a good job of polishing each spoke of my Harleys

Careful letting the suspension "hang" on any car with active suspension. I did this without engaging the "wheel change button" and blew two bladders & a solenoid on my SL600 costing me $3K to fix.

"YEN" is used in Japan. Hong Kong also uses dollars, but they are Hong Kong dollars ;).

    Hi

We designed them from standard parts. They're computer controlled and can't lower if there is a car or person below. They also have a mechanical stop so you're not resting on hydraulic system. They've worked well for many years.

    Very innovative design.

Experience has taught me to replace the word "can't" with "probably won't".

I am doing exactly the same - making use of standard parts to fit my needs. I will also use mechanical stops and sensors. Hope I have as happy an experience as you have. Some of your cars are rather light so not too much strain on the system :):):)

Many thanks for your offer. The buildings ordinance in Hong Kong requires that industrial buildings have sprinklers. I am not so crazy about this but it appears that the law is clear - irrespective of any other system that I may have, the sprinklers must be operational. This also applies to data centres in industrial buildings. The building where my garage is located is entirely concrete and there is no serious industry in it - that all moved to China some years ago. I will PM you with more details as my architect is doing further research

Comments noted on the lifts but I have a lot of confidence in the Chinese made lifts. I have seen them in use in friend's garages for many years with no problems. It is also easy for me to get service if I stick with local products. I have a house and car in China and the Audi dealership in China is beyond any that I have seen anywhere in the world. Service, equipment, facilities are fantastic. I actually look forward to going there

Very interesting point. I am only planning to store my Daytona, 288 GTO and F40 on lifts for about 4 months per year when it is too hot and humid to enjoy the cars. The suspension ranges from agricultural to primitive on these cars so should be no problem :):):)

Hydraulics are very strong. Our lifts are rated to 10,000 pounds +. Make sure to use industrial elevator components and ratcheting mechanical step locks so that if a line blows the lift can only fall a foot or so.

    Regards

I believe you Jim and they do look very impressive. I am sure they involve a lot of design and engineering and calculated structural work. I am a mechanical engineer and these are not just some ordinary work. A very knowledgeable person must have designed and executed them.
In my case I find it a lot easier to use the standard 4 post lifts ;).

    Best regards, TK
