Hello, I need help choosing a card, its either single (1) nvidia gtx 280 with 1gb (which is $400 more) or dual (2) ati hd 4850's with 2gb running in crossfire. also, if I picked the hd 4850's, in the future if I were to get a nvidia card, would I have to change or delete stuff on the pc or can I just change the cards.

    Thanks

hi, i am running two EVGA 8800GT cards in SLI with XP64 and i have had no issues. my cards are 512 mg each, so in SLI i have just over a gig of video ram. games and CATIA V5 scream with this set up. i am also running twin Zalman copper video card coolers with extra heat syncs, and i vary the speed of the cpu and gpu coolers based on load and overclocking.

:) newegg is a great place to pic cards from.

The best bang for you buck right now is the 48xx series from ATI. The 4850x2 are pretty good.

If you want to stick with nvidia then let us know what resolution you use. Anything higher than 1680x1050, then choose the GTX 285...or GTX 280 if money is an issue. You have to make sure your mobo supports sli or crossfire and make sure its pci-e 2.0. Also make you have a beefy power supply.
