    Hi All,

So, I am the new owner of a beautiful F430 Spider. Couldn't be a happier, and I have yet to quit grinning. That said, I have come to a very important realization about myself . . . I really don't enjoy washing/detailing my car.

When I first bought the car, I immediately went out and invested way too much money in high-end car care products. I really thought I would have a great time on a Sunday afternoon washing, waxing, cleaning, conditioning the outside and inside of the car. I thought I would take great pleasure in the end product and a job well done. I was wrong. After 2 hours this afternoon trying to get the car just so, and recognizing that it still is far from perfect (how do you avoid water spots???), I have thrown in the figurative and literal towel.

That's where this post comes in. I am hoping to establish a long-term, regular relationship with a top-notch detailer in Northern Virginia. I'd like to set up a a regular schedule for washing the car, with periodic full detailing, as necessary. I am hoping some of you can give me some suggestions. I have never paid to have a car detailed (my other cars go to the local car wash), so I haven't clue where to start, and all insights will be much appreciated.

Thanks in advance for your help!!

A lot of people don't understand the difference between washing their car and spraying some stuff on it...and a proper detail. Really getting a car to pop and sparkle is just as much a time consuming craft as anything else. The nice thing is that once the car is polished out and sealed up you can enjoy a quick wipe down with micro-fiber and spray detailer in between details and get the satisfaction of the weekend car cleaning ritual.

A good detailer won't have an issue with giving you a couple basic tips on how to maintain the car in between visits either. There are some small precautions you can take that'll make both you and your detailer's life easier.

Chris does great work, you'll find one or two other guys that do great work as well. Most of the really skilled detailers around here do it part time, don't spend too much time calling big car was (er detail) shops.
