So while we are on the subject...any good recommendations for an excellent detailer in the Boston area? I'll need to send the new 458 there when it comes in down the road.

    Thanks in advance!

100% Rick Nelson from Unique Car Care.

Rick was named in Autoweek (alongside Todd Coopenrider and myself) as one of the top detailers in the country, and (at least in his and Todd's case) for very good reason.

The paint on new Ferrari's is pretty hammered from the factory, it is my understanding that they leave the work to the dealers to 'prep' the car. It makes sense, to some degree, because if they made the paint perfect from the factory, it would likely get a little banged up during shipping and have to be fixed anyways.

The problem is that most of the dealer prep isn't very good. Ferrari, like anybody, has to make money, and they often don't employee the best people to get the job done right, they employee the best people to help them save money. So you get a car that 'could' fall short of it's potential. It's not that Ferrari's have terrible paint form the factory as much as it is the dealerships are saving money on the prep. Why pay somebody 1200-2000 dollars (to make it perfect) when you can pay somebody 150 dollars and most people won't know the difference.

I would suggest telling the dealership to hold off on prepping the car and have it delivered (if possible) straight to Rick's shop. He will make wrong right and make your first day with your new baby 'perfect'!

    Best of luck and congrats!

I second the motion for Rick Nelson. Not only is he unbelievably talented at what he does, but he's an absolute professional at the same time. I consider myself to be a good detailer (you may have seen my work on the new 458 that is posted in this section), but Rick is the guy I go to when I need advice!

I agree with everything Todd Helme said ^^
