    Russ,

You pulled the engine out the top?

no, it looks like the sub frame was temp put back to roll the car around. still missing some bolts at the frame. I think I'vce been the only one crazy enough besides you to yank them out the top :D

Russ, for the front heat shield I polished mine up to a mirror finish, works great when trying to eyeball stuff on the front bank.

    With my bare hands.
No, just as Scott said, the subframe was bolted back end. The engine is somewhat apart... see below.

How did you polish up the heat shield? I was going to throw the shield in with the headers when ceramic coat, but polishing sounds better. Will also try to clean and touch up the frame pieces - any suggestions for the rear trunk wall?

I am also replacing the long cooling hoses with silicone while we're there based on Birdman's experience.

Great idea! I'll have to do that next time the motor is out of the car (but likely I'll have someone do that work, so I'd have to coordinate with him to get in there and polish that heat shield.)

I did polish the heat shield under the Mondial (by the muffler.) FWIW, I used a Mother's Power Ball Mini and Mother's Power Metal and it cleaned that up really well.

yrs ago I used to distribute a polish by the name wenol, works great and it's mostly due to it's high petroleum content -think paste & gas- so I have tubes and containers of this stuff lying around. it can be bought cheapest at williams sonoma of all places, my other favorite hobby -cooking :D.

I cleaned off the dirt and oil with simple green and then got to work with the polish, wenol is applied and left to work with no further rubbing, you can if you wish but it's not needed at this point. 30min or so later buff off the polish and reapply, shouldn't take more than 2~3 applications to get a mirror finish. if you have a polishing wheel or orbital it'll go faster and with less time.

the trunk wall on mine has the spray applied fireproofing, it needs to be re-done, so I just cleaned it with a brush and soapy water. after it dried I sprayed it with high temp silver paint. looks okay for now but I'll need to have it redone proper next time around. remove all the bolted bits makes it easier to work in that area.

my sub frame was coated in oil so it was in great shape once the oil/gunk was cleaned off.
