I have found odd few photo's of GTO's red and yellow with this budge on the rear hatch.

I would like to make a verssion of this from my flawed / damage 288 GTO you all know about.

But what other differences are on the GTO's with this budge. More photo's and info would help.

Other then outside paint jobs being changed to yellow or white or blk etc . I don't find much in the way of modified 288 GTO's like you see mods on the F40's. Not even rims mods .

You may want to ask this question again in the 288 GTO thread in the Super Ferraris forum section. Those guys might not see this here and they'll have an answer for you on the bulge and any other differences these cars have to other GTO's...

Here is the 288 GTO thread: http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/showthread.php?t=164148

They are the prototype 288's. I think the yellow car is the only one left today.

I read somewhere that, that buldge was for USA bound cars. Something to do with emissions and the need to raise the hood with that pronounced piece, for the emissions equipment. Not 100% sure though

The yellow prototype car has more slots in the engine cover, 1 more for each of the 3 rows I think.

The bulge was for a engine clearance issue on the early 288 GTO's built. The engine was modified and the flat cover for the engine then worked fine.

There were no 288 built with emission equipment or USA spec in any way. It was a gray market only car.
