Determining how many 458s were produced in a specific color

Not really, but it has to be an odd custom colour for that to be the case. There's even more than one in ****-brown.

There are a few threads here with guestimates of overall 458 production but there are no official figures let alone by year or color

 

I'm like 86% certain when people say 1 of N in ad listings they're making that number up.

How could you possibly know unless the manufacturer released that info? Even they probably don't know.

 

I'm 93.7% sure that my 2013 Spider is the only one in my color......

 

Obviously there are the odd TM car painted in an initially one-off colour. I'm sure Ian Coburn got a kick out of knowing that his Speciale was the only Speciale in that colour, for about a month. As soon as it is painted, it is available to anyone, and if people like it, it will quickly find use. However, some lesser known colours will obviously be pretty rare, and some are just not considered because they look too similar to other colours. A good example of the former is Rosso Libano. A gorgeous three layer metallic red that is similar to Coburn but slightly more cherry. I'm sure there's only a handful of F8 Spiders in that colour. Very few dealers have samples of it and I don't know if other places than the Ateliers have larger samples. Another example of the latter is Rosso Chiaro. Vintage red several 250's, 275's and 330's were painted in. Looks like a blend of Rosso Corsa and Rosso Scuderia, but mostly like Corsa. So why would those who seek a Ferrari Red car pay for that when Rosso Corsa is free? Most first time buyers don't even know it exists.

There are definitely rare colours out there, but very few actual one-offs.

It's a hoot when I read an ad for a 458 in "rare Rosso Fuoco". Ffs, that's laughable.

What about the custom color formulation and retirement option. I’ve heard of that but not met anyone who has ever done it.

 

In answer to the original question, only Ferrari have the complete information to be able to give an accurate answer. So, the only way to get that answer is to ask Ferrari (via a dealer, importer or directly via the Ferrari website etc.). They may or may not choose to give an answer and it is possibly the case that they have been more helpful with such enquiries in the past.

Other sources, like myself, have partial information. So I can say how many I know of in a particular colour out of the total I know colours for. That can then be extrapolated for total production but would only give a rough idea. For some models (particularly older cars) someone like Marcel Massini can tell you how many were originally made in a particular colour.

 

I have a 2013 458 Spider Rosso Maranello, not sure how many were produced though

 

Seems like you and this guy need to get together.

I am positive my Rosso Maranello F12 is one of one...its the only one owned by me.

 

My 458 is the very rare Rosso Corsa color.
I can't believe I was able to find one in that color!
