Hi guys...first time ont the board. I am a 52 year old guy that is bored and decided to get a Ferrari for light weekend use. I am leaning towards a 07 599 with around 5K miles....it looks like I can pick one up for around 200K. The other car I am looking for is a 2010 California with 5K miles for slighly over 200K. I like the convertible option and the fact there is some warranty left on it but the 599 has great styling...plus I am 6-3, 250 pounds so the 599 is very comfortable.

What kind of maintenance costs will I be seeing on the 599??? How many miles do ceramic brakes last? How about the clutch? Any other surprises I should be prepared for? From the few threads I have read, it seems like everyone has had a good experience with the 599. This is my first venture into the sports car market and I am studying hard before my January decision. Is it safe to buy this car from a non Ferrari dealer???

Any assistance or advice will be greatly apprecited....

As long as you get a full Pre Purchase Inspection (PPI) done by a Ferrari dealer. Clutch life is really dependent on how you drive it, and replacing it will run around $6k. From what I have been told, for the average driver, the clutch will last around 30,000 miles, but I could be way off. Not sure on the lifespan of the carbon ceramic brakes. But I know they last for a very long time.

I would say significantly more than 30K miles if driven with some care.
Our car has 60,000km (37K miles) with around 80% of clutch life remaining.
She has seen her fair share of traffic jams and slow speed maneuvers as well.

One of the best investments you can make for your baby!. I've had them installed on all my Fcars past and present including my 599 GTB and GTO. I don't sweat resurfaced roads, loose gravel or even recent oil/tar deposits. No concerns about highway driving and big semi's kicking up stones every mile. I consider it good insurance..... No bumper/hood/wheel well paint damage and no resprays. More fun....Less worry!

Definetly get a clear bra. Will run $900 to $1200 depending where you go. I went to a rally this past weekend. Didnt have a clear bra, and now I regret it as I have over a dozen small chips. Not the end of the world, but it could have been avoided.

Good scoop on the clear coat guys....it makes sense and sounds like a good investment.
