I have a friend who is considering buying a Mondial 8 coupe for his first Ferrari. He's driven my 328 (who hasn't? :D), but has never been in a Mondial or seen one in person. Is there anyone local with an early Mondial coupe that would be willing to let him sit in it and check it out?

Off the top of my head I can't think of anyone who has an early one. John and Carol's T coupe is the only coupe I can think of, and it's not even close to the same car :)

Incidently, he's looking for a blue one, under 20K in price.

And yes, I've warned him that Ferraris are moneysucking leeches that screw up your automotive perspective forever. He doesn't seem dissuaded by that....

I've got a 3.2 in San Antonio he is welcome to see, but it's not the same as an 8.

Oops, forgot the local tag in the title. Thanks for reminding me about that.

Hopefully we can find an 8 closer to DFW. I've driven a 3.2 last year, great car actually. Thanks for the offer, I'll let you know.

    Indeed.

I'm surprised you can get Modial coupe for less than $20K though.

There were several on eBay a while back, however, they weren't local cars. It'll be hard to find a Mondial 8 in town for sale. Most DFW Ferrari owners drive late model cars & the older ones migrate to the west coast.

Does this mean that your next Ferrari will be a Mondial? :)

I must say that John's F car search was not for the Mondial t but for a 308 or 328. I am actually glad that he ended up acquiring "Sophia." I really like the lines/appeal of the Mondial t, the fact that you can share the Ferrari experience with others at the same time (the backseat isn't all that uncomfortable provided you aren't a big person) and the fact that yes, we have gone shopping at Central Market and have a place (a real trunk, even though small) to haul groceries! What makes Sophia special/unique to me is the fact that she's 1 of 42 exported to the US in 1989. She's not really just another car but she's family member :) For the 2-seater experience, we've got "Kaspar" the SLK 350.

Did you see 308 SPECIAL version at Cavallino? For less than $30K, it's tempting. Very tempting, yes, but I must see it in person. It'll replace my another horse, Mustang for space (not monetary value), and 355 will stay.

    Mike/Milkey-fresh,
Interesting observation. I didn't notice older F are not always available, but you're right. I didn't have many choices locally for the first F in 2003, which I ended up w/ 328 (308, TR, Mondial, 348 were another candidates)

    Hi Tillman,
It's interesting that someone else in Dallas is also looking for one. I have narrowed down my wishlist to the mondial t. It's obvious now, that this is going to have to be a nationwide search. I am struggling with how one buys an out of town car with confidence (PPI aside, its still a daunting). Next stop will probably be Jonathan @ Dallas Lambo, and ask him to lend his expertise. Let me know if you find a red/tan mondial t for a daily driver. Moyez

    Moyez,

A red/tan '89 Mondial t Coupe is advertised in the classifieds at www.ferrariclubofamerica.com. Good hunting. The effort is definitely worth it.
