F1 & Super Bike Races...in Texas? I couldn't see that lasting very long. Didn't they attempt a F1 race with the Texas State Fair years ago that ended up being abandoned after 1 race?
It was going to be built out by Frisco. Land "supposedly" had been secured and runways for private jets had been "approved" by the FAA. I have friends who lost BIG money in the deal. I don't believe it was a scam- there are some very enthusiastic people involved but it crashed about the same times as the .com sector imploded.
What about the one that was going to have Auto racing, gun club, Horseback riding, health club, underwater basket weaving, etc...? www.racersranch.com
Not sure if this one is on my "defunct" list or not. Does it match any of these? Gunter Ring (Frisco) - Land bought and track actually bulldozed before converted to housing. Boundless Motorplex (South of DFW) - Land bought and track designed. Investors turned to circle tracks and drag strips. Mineral Wells - City approval, but never got going, maybe called Wolters Glen? Brownsville - Proposed to city, organizer had several car clubs write letters to city saying they would use track if built. New Green Valley (North of DFW) - Land bought, track designed, and companies and individuals committed to lots. Owner was major Norwood customer with land speed stuff. Racers Ranch (Terrell) http://www.racersranch.com
As far as I know every planned track below is now defunct. Most of them actually bought land, planned everything out, sold lots, and broke ground. Banks won't touch these and when they find that out 20% into the project they can't move forward. Heck, MSR Cresson has been around forever, already built, big membership role, waiting list for garages, and they still have to find private financing. Banks don't understand race track clubs.
It doesn't exist, unless you are into lawn mower racing or tractor pulls. Apparently its much easier to build a website than a race track.
Last I heard from someone that knows. RR has moved locations and they still say it will happen. A track is real when you drive on it.
I heard the same. It was moved from a greenfield site to a new site that is an addition to an existing community of some kind. What I have not heard is if there were any changes to the financing of the project. My understanding is that X% of the home sites had to be pre-sold to secure the financing. I'm not sure what X% is, but in this market that will be VERY difficult. Plus in any market selling homes without the track already in place is tough. Even if they have not given up, I wouldn't expect anything to happen this year. Hopefully I am wrong. EC missed their deadlines by about a year but still pulled it off. I'd love to see the same thing happen here.
