Why would a person do that? Unless the car has been modified, the power curve should visually be dipping by the time a person reaches red line. No sense in pushing it further.
Rob: Can you give me more details about the SCCA thing you are doing? I am interested in maybe heading over there if possible. I love the races, plus my son has never been to one. You can PM me if you want. Thanks, Manuel
No, it runs excellent, perfect compression, etc. I'm just real careful with it. I never take it over 5K RPM, and to 5K very rarely. A dyno test isn't going to make it any faster. The sound and feel of a vintage V12 is a pleasure at any speed.
In other words, you have no idea how it runs... you've never let it run! The real beauty of a Ferrari engine is at 5k rpm and above. True, and true. But running above 5k rpm will make it faster... and make it sound even more pleasurable. Take your poor Ferrari out and let her run!
I'm happy being fifteen years older than my car, just holding up traffic, letting the ricers run past me.
I will try and make it but I am not sure if I will be able to, but would love to come out if nothing else. I know the time and place you guys are meeting at. Nick
See everyone tomorrow. I would strongly suggest bringing folding chairs of some type if you want to sit, and based on what Matt told me about his Pantera, I'm bringing my shooting headset

Results! First, thanks to everyone who came out. We ended up having 7 cars run on the dyno and several more who came out to watch. Thanks also to Aaron who opened on a Saturday, and showed off his MR2 hotrod. The participants on the dyno were Darrell -- red 308 GTS Scott -- red Pantera Matt -- blue Pantera Mark -- yellow 348 Challenge Chad -- black Jaguar XJ6 (w/modified 350 Chevy motor) Jano -- blue 348 Spider Tillman -- grey 328 GTS Everyone's car was in great shape and looked beautiful -- with the exception of my spoiler-less redneck 328 I think my numbers are accurate, if you all have different figures let me know. I'm rounding to the nearest 1 HP at the wheels. Add 15-20% for engine HP. 308: 165, 165, 168 328: 217, 217, 222 Scott's Pantera: 372, 370, 381 Matt's Pantera: 267, 268, 267 Mark's 348: 239, 241, 243 Jaguar: 248 -- the automatic transmission was causing problems getting a good number on the dyno. The engine was dyno'd in the 500s before it went in the car. Jano's 348: 254, 253, 258 Aaron's 2.2 liter MR2 pulled 458 HP(!) and darned near launched from the dyno... Afterwards we headed down for some mexican food and watched the traffic sit on the freeway. All in all a good day of car geeking Pics follow, in whatever random order the board software sticks it in.... Small mpegs of the runs are at http://www.alfachat.com/dynoday/ Really slow server, probably best to save as. Scott, I'm sorry but the floppy with most of your pics and the mpegs was bad
Great time today. Thanks to Tillman for putting it together. It was my first time on the dyno, and while I was shooting for 280RWHP, I'm at least thrilled with my torque--322lbs!
So that was the HP report on the Fcars. What about torque? Loks like everyone had fun there, three runs for $40 is a great deal. Maybe next evet they have I can get a report on the Integra.
HA! My former Pantera (Scott Black's car now) crushed the wimpy F-cars ;-) And it was DOWN on power, I am wiling to bet, as it made over 500 hp on the engine dyno. Wish I could have come to play. Keith
Yep, but my SRX7 was faster than your non existent SM this past weekend. Stop working so hard and come out to play! I hope you race this weekend, although you will be in another group. SM had 47 cars at TWS!
Scott was thinking the engine dyno was previously 480HP. If so, that would be about a 20% ZF tranny loss, resulting in the 380RWHP. Sounds about right to me. No one can seem to agree what % is actually lost through the ZF. Come out to the Pantera meeting tomorrow night Keith, bring the new toy!
My memory must be failing - perhaps the P-car made only 480 hp. I will not race AGAIN this weekend - I have a trial starting Monday and witnesses in from out of town to prepare on Sat & Sun.
I have a .mov of the first four cars too -- I'll post the link as soon as I find out what my ISP did with my web space. You guys that got there later can hear Tillman's 328 getting wound past 8000 rpm. Sorry I missed this one. I had some friends that are living in West Africa show up this weekend without notice. It's not often I get to see them.
