Greetings. As you all may have noticed, we're trying to add a second driving event to the schedule. We worked around the IRL races and some other things and chose Oct 9 a while back. Unfortunately, we didn't realize that UT/OU falls that weekend. Is that a huge problem? My initial thoughts are yes, due to the following: 1) a lot more people in the metromess than usual, and they don't know the roads 2) more enforcement on the roads that weekend 3) more people trying to fill up restaurants and such 4) some people might actually care about UT football. Would you still be interested in a drive that Saturday, or should it be moved to another weekend?
I voted who cares about the game, but that's just personal. For the good of the event I think we should move it as some do care. There are a few weekends around there to choose from that should work.
Ok Rob, even though you are from Kansas and went to school in Boston, you are hereby granted honory OU Fan status for growing up closer to Oklahoma than Texas!
I went to Texas and I voted who cares. At this point I care more about having fun with the Ferrari and getting together with you guys than the game, but I would like to point out something to all the "OU people": Have you noticed that the new F1 color for Ferrari has a little like bit of burnt orange in it. They must be UT fans! :> Nick
No I wasnt talking about an OU fan swallowing his dip! :> I was talking about the Scuderia Ferrari new "burnt orange red" color.
LOL, I could go either way. I was born in Austin. My mindset is more inline with Austin than Oklahoma. I did spend 5 years of my life in Pryor, OK and the rest of it growing up in Kansas. I'm really Texan by blood and heart. I could give a rats ass about the game though.
I went to UT but won't be watching the game. The problem is not the football but rather the roads, traffic etc. I would change to another weekend.
I think 1 to 3 are legitimate concern, but it could be viewed as opposite, too. During the game time, there will be less people out there on streets as they are watching the game on TV or being at the stadium. Since more enforcement will be allocated to the stadium, it may be less. If we use the restaurant w/out TV, I don't think there will be many people whose oriented by this game. Just my speculation. Either way, we can avoid the area, no?
The whole city will be a flurry of activity that weekend, and not just local to the area around the stadium. Every restaurant and bar in town will be packed. It's not just the people going to the game, it's the thousands more who are in town just for the partying.
Hey after the last TXOU weekend all i saw was a bunch of guys rolling around in White F-150's and Red Tahoe's with open beer screaming GO _______ (insert school) like they were still living in a frat... except for the baby seats in the back...
And your point is? Hehe. It may not be everyone's deal, but I've been going to OU/TX games since I was little, and they only got more fun as I got older, culminating with the last year you could walk up and down Commerce with open containers while everyone cruised the street. It's not as a big deal party-wise to me anymore, but it's still the biggest day in football for me, bigger than the Superbowl for me.
Rob, See I knew you were a great guy! Sorry you had to spend that time in Oklahoma. Now I dont even have to explain to you the reason Texas doesnt fall into the Gulf of Mexico. LOL :> Nick
It would seem more logical to NOT do it on UT/OU weekend. The disadvantages are obvoius-- Now why can't we have a drive on the same weekend as an IRL race? I'm not proposing that we schedule the drive DURING the race, just on the same weekend.
