This caught my eye on my usual route home from work the other day, and I decided today was a good day to snap some pics. How often do you see an Alfa Romeo parked in a lot with a "for sale" sign on the windshield in the US? For me; never before.

I drove up and the owner happened to be there and he told me all about it. It's an '81 Alfa Romeo I correctly identified as a GTV6, it has 117k, an interior (or lack thereof) that needs more pieces than a bucket full of legos can provide you, and has the usual amount of rust you'd associate with an Alfa more than 10 years old--in other words, lots of nice brown crusty rust. He said it needed a muffler, sat for 7 years before he got it, and he was able to get it to run by putting a battery in it and replacing something else I can't quite remember right now...

I have a poor verbal memory, so that's about all I can remember he said.

He also has a '68 Mercedes there that looked to be in quite a bit better shape. I didn't get close to it, but it looked better than this Alfa from afar. I didn't get it in any pics. To me, it looked like a 1950s car, but he said '68.

The car is located between Newkirk and Luna on Royal Ln. This is about 1 mile from Lamborghini Dallas. Might check it out if you're interested. He said he would sell it to me for $1500, to which I thought of saying "I'll give ya 50 bucks for it," but alas, I did not. :)

    Here's a video I took...

Hmmm, pulled out of a field in Oklahoma?

    That looks pretty rough.

It wouldn't be a project car from hell if it wasn't rough! :)

And... I gotta tell ya. That interior was a mess (what was left of it). You'd have an easier time going the hotrod route with this than the restoration route.

You would have to be some sort of masochist to even attempt restoring that. Whatever parts are even salvageable you would make more money just parting it out, I'm surprised the guys at Vick Autosports haven't bought this yet for race car spares.

The paint on that looks like single stage, I'm sure it could be restored. Don't know about the interior though, the guy who's I just did said he's having a hard time finding parts and such...

I just spent 10 hours buffing out and detailing a 73 Alfa Romeo spyder, and it looked almost as bad as that one but the paint was in a little better shape though.

He may have not been looking hard enough, if he's ever been to Vick's they just about have almost everything.

It would be tough to buff out those big holes.... ;)

Might make a good parts car. Maybe a $200 car for that.

If I didn't live in an apartment and have a full 2-car garage, I would have tried offering him the $50...;)

...Then I would have sold it on craigslist for $300 and gotten a profit.

Thanks, I'll forward him this website, he's still in the process of restoring it. He literally had a check list he marked off as I finished it up...

You may have a point. :)
