Tuesday, 21 October 2008 00:00 Mercedes DTM driver Paul di Resta completed his second of two test outings for McLaren at Silverstone on Tuesday. After impressing in the McLaren simulator and on track for Mercedes in the DTM, di Resta was granted two days of testing last week as well as Monday and Tuesday this week. McLaren was free to trial the Scotsman as a young driver and therefore outside of the testing mileage restrictions imposed on race and third drivers by the FIA. The team was running this years MP4-23 at both tests, with the aim of maximising the cars potential ahead of the seasons title decider in Brazil. The 22-year-old pipped current Toro Rosso sensation Sebastian Vettel to the F3 Euroseries title in 2006 and last year finished fifth in the DTM driving a year-old Mercedes. This year he is a serious challenger for the DTM title, heading into the deciding round at Hockenheim this weekend just two points off series leader Timo Scheider. It had been speculated that di Restas McLaren test was in preparation for a Force India drive next year, as part of a Mercedes engine and technical supply deal with the Silverstone-based team. But Force India owner Vijay Mallyas recent announcement that both Giancarlo Fisichella and Adrian Sutil will be retained for 2009 appears to rule out that possibility in the short term. From ITV
Di Resta is quite talented. I thought it was a shame he couldn't get a budget together for GP2. Hopefully we can see him make it to F1 sometime.
Yep, LH caught me by surpise never took much interest in rising stars, in lower formula, so it would be good to ear mark them, for F1 success.
To be honest i knew about LH 4 years back, as well as remembering him on the TV 10 years ago. I used to watch him race in the lower classes and met the guy at Donington in 2006 as well as watch him rae there. I live 5 mins from the track by the way. I used to tell my mates about this great young driver that will be the first coloured driver in F1, if allowed. Now here he is.
Nice one, there are a few one this site I think, that knew he was going to be that bit special before hand, but I'm sure it caught out most just how good he really is, me being one!!... I mean a rookie up against FA, who would have thought!! I certainly wouldn't have taken a bet on it.
