OK, now I am not sure which to go for. I had a 2WD Diablo and loved it, but some tell me the Vt is better, is that a fact?
I do know the VT has the updated dash, and the 4WD of course, but with the 2WD being lighter and quicker, which is the better Diablo, if that is even the right question?
Even though they were all built maybe a year or 2 apart, is there really an evolution to speak of in the VT's? Reliability factor?
I would appreciate any advice from previous owners, thank you in advance.

I have both, prefer the 2WD. A 98 SV is as reliable as they come. There's something to be said for AWD though as you can do more with the power.

I have a 2wd and appreciate the raw nature of the car. Not refined at all.
I am pretty sure all the 91-93 cars were produced in 1991. So eventhough the advancements over one year might not be great, it is actually more than that.

I always did want a 91 Diablo to match my 91 TR. ...More along the line of what I grew up lusting after. I ended up with a VT roadster.

Durring my research, I found that...like everyone said, 91-93 is lighter, faster, more viseral.

OK, VT does have the updated dash. From my perspective, I like to sit low and back...like a fighter jet. The earlier dash would not allow me to sit that way.

The VT does have all wheel drive. I don't like complicated crap...it's just something else to go wrong. But...how will you use the car? I was told that the VT was a better everyday car with better traction in the rain. Mine is a daily driver getting caught in heavy Florida rains on the interstate.

The active shock system...blessing or curse. I have read so so many threads about leaking shocks...only a dealer item 1400.00 a piece. Fix it and it will soon leak again. But...it reads the load and stiffens the shocks accordingly. I took a corner much faster than in the TR...with no appreciable lean.

Hydraulic front lift system. See blessing or curse. I keep it in the lowest setting and won't touch the button.

Power steering...not as bad as I thought...doesn't feel like Honda

The one bad thing I heard about the early Diablos (assuming the engine updates etc) is that some bearing in the crank area go bad early. Have heard the new ones from Lambo also go bad. Requires a full engine tear down.

Ferrarichat member FL355 paid about 20k to completely redo his engine. His shop actually searched out a different bearing that was some aerospace thing. PMail FL355( Frank Lipinski) for details.

I did confirm the engine bearing thing with Roy last year.

The engine thing was what made me finally go for a VT. Roy said that it was changed and not an issue in the VT's.

Well that's my unbiased research. I'm too new with the "Big D" to offer an opinion.

....I really really like the car though. It's so over-the-top which is more in line with my personality. :)

    Thanks Shamile,

Great insight, and like you, I also love those iconic cars from the 80's to the early 90's, Miami Vice era, hence my preference for the 2WD Diablo, but I wasn't aware of that particular engine issue. I guess it's like the dreaded transaxle issue in the Testarossa, which was updated in 92' with the 512TR's, a similarity with the VT upgrade I guess. I also like the simplicity of the 2WD, less added things to worry about, or as you put it, blessings or curse.
I will consider that into my final decision, thanks again for your input, enjoy your car, rain or shine!

If you want 2wd but a nice dash you should get an SV.

Don't forget there are 12 rare factory RWD Diablo specifically produced in 1996 with updated dash and all the technological improvements of second generation Diablos.....

As to Stephane's inquiry...., my preference is RWD (you are responsible for this since we both share the same car) but Power Steering for suuuure. My arm strength aren't what they used to be in my old age :D

Oh yeah, with the VT, you have the big brembo brakes. Scaledetails, you're on the TR board as well so you know it costs about 9600.00 to update the heavy ATE calipers and discs to the 4 piston brembos. I assume same cost for the upgrade on an early D.

....Or you can just buy TomF1's 96 with all the fun goodies. Sorry, no blow-up-doll included.

I'm not pro VT...it's just what I found in my research.
