How would you guys rate the maintenance cost of a Diablo compared to say a Ferrari 355 or 360? I realize they are quite different vehicles, but I am just curious, as I prefer the Diablo and other older Lambos compared to the newer ones. I would assume quite a bit more, but I am really naiive to the ownership costs of Lambo, as opposed to Ferrari.

    Thanks a lot in advance!

    No timing belts!

If you don't abuse the clutch, maintenance costs should be less.

No burnouts, and learn to take care of the clutch.

    The engines are strong.

I would look for a well sorted early 91-93 2wd car, without the shock lift system. The car is fully depreciated. You will simply pay for maintainance.

With the Diablo make sure the chain tensioners have been upgraded and know how to drive a clutch your maintenance will be less.

The best idea is to leave it alone.

not sure you would gain much by swapping aluminum, and especially fiberglass with carbon fiber. definitely not when you consider cost. I think the obvious things you would do to any car would work. particularly providing more breathing room for the engine by working on the intake side and the exhaust side.

If you wana go all the way you can take out the primary and secondary cats as well as swap out the mufler and save close to 100lbs and gain about 20ish HP.
But then you run into an issue with smog testing crap(if you have it).

I think this is in reference to Gallardos, but does this seem to hold true?

from Lamboghini of Washingtons Website, http://www.fwash.com/lwash/pur-faq.htm

How much does it cost to maintain a Lamborghini?

The annual service for a Lamborghini costs about $500. It’s also wise to have the car detailed at least once a year. A stage II detail costs $275. Every two years the brakes, gearbox and cooling systems need to be flushed and the fluids changed. That costs about $500. If you run your car hard at track events, you will need to change brake pads more frequently and a complete set of pads costs about $2,000 installed. Beyond that, everything is covered under the two-year factory warranty.

    Dear Lamborghinisti,

    Hmmm....I would have thought so.

Yes, no timing belts, but since so much is in that tight engine bay, you may need to do an engine out for other things. For example, on an 91-93 Diablo, you have to pull the engine to do the starter. Since the starter, Alt & Ac compressor are in high heat areas, they are more prone to failure.

If you buy a roadster, you WILL be doing the headers.

LIE computers are about 5K now. The GFA module is about 2K. To do the Accessory belts, you pretty well need to disassemble the whole back of the car.

I find that my Diablo ( roadster ) is very equally matched in expence to my Ferrari Testarossa.

Don't get me wrong, I absolutely love my Diablo...what else is there ?!?!

BUT, you asked, and I'm trying to give you an honest unvarnished answer.

BUT...after you drive a Diablo, all of the above will seem pointless and mute. :D

all my fluids changed cost me like $1200 I think, and that wasnt at a Lambo dealer. Take it to one and it would easily be $1500+

the 15 quarts of oil is like $200
unless you know where to get AGIP cheap :D

I uses racing oil, so its still like $200 for me :(

Not to mention early Diablos eletric glitches, annyoing high dash board, but ofcourse they are lighter and 2 wheel is "always better" for the purist. A perfect Diablo would be 94 2 wheel drive.

You can google pretty much any topic but based on conversations with some techinical gurus, they advised that 94 2 wheel drive cars are the performers and away from 91-92 electric problem cars.

Another comment on the early Diablos. The high dashboard works great if you are over about 5'11". The main instruments are just placed perfectly just below your line of sight of the road. But if someone isn't that tall, it is hard to see over the cluster and it sucks. So your height will matter in your decision process.

It does not come in red this is terrible, I want A/C and stereo :(

What about the SE Jota black only? Is it possible to find a 2 wheel drive with the 94 dash in red, with a/c stereo full leather?

If I am not mistaken the Diablo SV Version1 95-98 is 2 wheel drive, VT dash, new 3-piece adjustable spoiler and was powered by a modified version of the 5.7-litre V12 producing 510 hp (380 kW). The car's air intakes were slightly differently shaped.

I think this is the only Lambo for me :)

    Dear Lamborghinisti,

You can convert the VT to a non VT with SV stub axles. I reluctantly did this on my roadster. I prefer the wet performance even though I don't like the feel of the VT. At the urging of George Evans ( Evans Automotive ) I removed the complete system because of the catastropic failures he has seen. I have a full thread with pix on LP.
