I am not one of Ferrari's "best" customers and purchased my first 1 a year ago (a CPO 488 spider).

Car has had stupid issues that they will not cover, leather on dash bubbling, broken leather strap in trunk)

I have had 1 service done at the Dealer where I purchased. There is a rattling sound from the engine bay. They could not find it.

Also, all of these trouble lights came on after the service (weeks after) and I changed the battery, yet they did not clear.

Brought it in to the dealer and verified the rattling sound and also asked them to take care of the lights.

They asked for a $300 diagnostic fee in case the warranty doesn't cover (which the Power warranty only covers a limited amount of items)

I would guess this is reasonable, right? I mean they have to take time to identify. Just want to have appropriate expectations. I have had other luxury brands and never encountered being asked for a diagnostic fee.

I am not complaining, rather just want to properly bracket expectations.

BMW did that to me recently. My car had a check engine light, I scanned it with an OBD2 scanner, diagnosed the fault and made an appointment to get it fixed. They told me up front they had to charge me $120 to confirm the fault code (which matched what I had found). I haven't had to get Ferrari to scan any codes (yet), but assume they would charge me some sort of hourly labor rate.

My Ferrari dealer charged the same diagnostic fees. Usually 1.5 hr of labor which is $450. Ridiculous. I just do it all myself or goto an independent unless I’m sure it’s covered under my power warranty.

Diagnostic charge at FNB seems reasonable to me. I have found other brands' service bays in the area have similar diagnostic charges these days. I have been satisfied using FNB along with independents on my F cars over the years. Presumably, some would get the dealer diagnostic and then go to an independent. In addition to FNB, there are several independents in Orange County who have solid reputations. Talk to people at FNB events, FCA members, or go to a Cars'n'Coffee like The Finish Line Auto Club to gather opinions for your particular needs.

I have an OBD2 scanner. Located in south OC if you want to give it a shot to see what codes come up.

Diagnosis is standard in any service or trade industry, now that said if they dont know what they are doing then you shouldnt be paying anything for their incompetence
