I completely agree. The guy just won big bucks and was ready to blow it on the F-car to look cool. A "Poser" if you will.
I was here awhile back and loved the great tech advice I was able to gleen. I left due to the type of owners attitude that I see in this thread. I have owned and do own several older exotics. Not always the biggest buck cars but still true exotics ( Bora, Merak SS, Europa, Esprit, Turbo Esprit, 911SC, 308GTS and Mondial 3.2). All I can say is: Get over yourselves. If this guy came into my business and was willing to spend the cash I do not care if he is a total Yahoo..... he is the PERFECT owner of one of my new Ferrari's. This type of snobbery about if he is worthy of ownership just shows that some A-holes that are Fcar owners are still total jerks. If I walked into a dealership and was told to wait in line for the "honor" of spending my serious cash on what is really just a car....ROFL... to F'ing funny. And to find owners that think this is okay based on that dealer not getting the service.... and that somehow their chosen manufacturer should only serve a certain type of customer.... what a joke.
Do you think the same thing when asked to stand in a line at the movies? Or do you think because it is your hard earned cash, you shouldn't have to follow any rules?
Now obviously Im no owner, but I will be the first to point out that you probably dont get "Ferrari" While there is some reality that well, it is just a car, you miss the fact that Ferraris are built with a passion and the passion is in some people and some people just dont really have it. The reason a lot of people are frustrated with this guy is because the only reason he wanted his Ferrari was to look "rich" and "cool". Thats it, and thats all. If you buy a Ferrari, and your serious about Ferraris, not just some guy with big bucks, you will take it to a race course, and learn to drive it like it was meant to be driven. 90% of Ferrari owners are not A-holes, actually they are some of the nicest people ive met, they can see im a young guy with the passion for Ferrari so they will love to talk Ferrari and share the passion. These guys that just buy because they have 400k to spend and want to be seen with a hot girl are the ones who are disrespected in some senses. They dont share the passion and I know that there is some Tifosi out there searching for "that car" thats perfect for them, unfortunatley it was bought by "cool guy" and sits in a garage and makes frequent trips to Starbucks and clubs just to be seen. Im sure there are some owners here who will explain the situation much better than I did...so ill stop here and let them take over.
Not the issue... At the movies I am judged by what film I see. One poster here actully said..." not the type of person we want driving a Fcar". Who are they or any of you to judge? I don't care if I go to a concourse and end up with my Ferrari parked next to a 360 owned by a red neck that won the Lotto. AS long as they can afford to keep it tuned and running they deserve the SAME respect as some ****** that worked a penny stock.
ROFL... ANY owner that does not admit to enjoying the "cool" part of exotic ownership is in denial..... and SO what.... if he wants to look good and feel good and can afford it it is his right. I am on my second Ferrari now.... and I can tell you... get over the "mystical" BS. I love what they do and how they do it.... but I get the same tingle when I drive my Bora or my Esprit.
And I take offense to a non owner telling me "I don't get it".That only proves my point. Who are you to tell me anything? That is the same BS that drove me away from this board before. You admit to being a "non-owner" and you think that you have any clue what happenes when you drive a Ferrari around town? Too F'inf funny. Let me tell you a story that taught me alot. I was about 20 and went to test drive a Porsche 911 . I took my best friend who happened to be a musician and looked the part, long hair and VERY raggy looking, we tested the car in the area near the dealer, it was very upscale, and I stopped to turn around in a driveway. AS we did this a couple of very cute 20'ish girls were walking by. They looked at the car and then right at my buddy and smiled like they were meeting the president. They talked to us for 10 mins and would have stayed longer but I had to get the car back. I can tell you.... if we had been in my friends toyota they would have not given him, or me, a second look. Over the course of a deccade , and lots of exotics, I can tell you many of these stories.
Im not trying to pick a fight here but seriously I think its kind of stupid for the people who just have the cash to buy the Ferrari, just buy the car so they can be seen and further help their efforts of getting laid. Everyones differnt I guess, if thats their approach then thats their approach but like I said, there are some die hard Ferrari fans in the world searching high and low for and F-car thats already been bought by some rich guy who wants to be seen on Friday and Saturday night at thats his sole purpose for the car. To quote another F-chatters motto: "USE IT. I think that says alot about this situation.
Don't own one either, but I owned an NSX back in the mid 90s and pretty much quit driving it after a year. That car sat practically undriven in the garage for nearly 5 years - it became increasingly annoying to ride around in because of the comments, people asking questions, etc. Not to mention finding fingerprints all over the thing at the end of the day. I tried going about my day-to-day business in that car, but forget it. So I think you either have to really love these types of cars (not the gawk factor) or really want to be seen in one to get the benefit of such an outlay. I'm still not sure if I'm a good candidate for a Ferrari or anything resembling something "exotic" because the attention is something I discovered I could do without. Someone help me out here: there are actually LINES at this dealership to buy a car? That's crazy. RMX
"If this guy came into my business and was willing to spend the cash I do not care if he is a total Yahoo..... he is the PERFECT owner of one of my new Ferrari's." Rollers, I don't care what he wants to do with his car - track it, drive it, garage it, live in it down by the river, whatever. What put me off is the mental picture of a blowhard who's just hit it big in a casino waving his cash in the air and demanding attention. That's insulting not only to the folks who work at the dealership, but also the people in line. It's still possible, though unfashionable, to have wealth or celebrity and yet remain somewhat humble.
Not really. The first weekend the Wynn was open, there were 3,000 visitors per day to the dealership. That inevitably creates lengthy waiting lines. (Obviously, the majority were there just to look, not buy.)
Remix, Only Niki Lauda and a few choice others needed a Ferrari as a real driver. Most of the rest of us own them because we can or as a sage investment. The fact that many get dinged on track days shows that it sure isn't the incredible driving skill of the owners that leads us to buy. And here in Florida I meet owners every week that just like to look "Miami Cool". My "weenie" works just fine even when I am driving my beater, but there is nothing wrong with scoring with a young chirpee that gets wet over your Fcar. I seem to recall a scene in one of the old Magnum shows where he was on a college campus and a girl came up and said " I'd do anything for a ride in that." Tom just looked into the camera and did his little smile. I am sure he was thinking " go away.... I am a driver not a poser." And on that note.... who here has the right to call anyone a "Poser"? I don't see any here that could not meet the price of admission to ownership. And once you are an owner you ae no longer a poser. How you use your Fcar is up to you.... score some strange, tell the world you won the lotto or just to hang with other effete snobs... You can emote all day long about how you felt annoyed by being bothered when driving your NSX..... but I don't buy it. You prob were more annoyed that they weren't curious about who YOU were. BTW.... what did you replace that car with...?
WCH, HAte to admit... A blowhard with cash is an apt description of many Ferrari owners. I agree with you on one level. I see customers every day that treat their wallet as if it opens any door and are very rude about it. But I take solace at the end of the day.... I can deal with their rudeness.... I have their money in my bank.
This whole post is absurd. Not one of you guys where there, yet you bash the fella who was wanting to buy the car. He won at the tables, so what. None of you know this guy or his history, he may be a car fanatic. It doesn't really matter. You guys "imagine" how he bahaved and that he is not "worthy", total BS! If someone is a serious buyer why in the world would you make him wait in line for an hour or however long while other people LOOKED with no intentions. 3000 or more people a day waiting in line, ya, the buyer should wait with everyone else, BS. I have owned a Ferrari, many Porsches and now a Maserati along with a few other cars. If you have the means and you like something than that is all that matters, get over this BS that someone doesn't get what owning a Ferrari is all about and doesn't deserve to own one. The MAJORITY of people who drive exotics do not drive them the way they were meant to be driven. One thing I can tell you, some of the people that have posted on this topic are the ones that "do not get it"! Christian
I didn't replace the car at all. Still haven't but maybe at some point. I don't know. I'm less than anonymous in my current career, so at times when I'm running to the store or to the bank, I'm not really interested in being bothered. I mean that sincerely, because during the week I like my life to be anonymous and quiet. YMMV. RMX
You just blew your own analogy... Thomas Magnum WAS, to use your terminology, a 'poser' - the car he drove didn't belong to Magnum; it belonged to Robin Masters, the owner of the estate. Being allowed to drive the car was nothing more than a perk of working for Masters - one that was revoked many a time over the run of the series, always accompanied by Magnum's whining over the loss. You've got more negative attitude than I've encountered here in the past few months... perhaps your leaving was appreciated, rather than mourned. Don't know; I wasn't here then. Just my unsolicited two cents...
I was there opening day. It was a zoo. The line was huge for the showroom, although one could just walk into the shop. As far as the big winner, had he called he would have been given an appointment with a salesman, that is how they have to do it there. The line is more for people that just want to look at the cars on display. In any case, the dealership is small most of what they have on display is new and, therefore, not really for sale anyway. At best, the big winner might have been able to get his name on a waiting list. Scottie www.TheCarcierge.com
Yeah, but how in the world would you know who wants to do what with so many people in line? I just cannot imagine 3000 people waiting to visit any car dealership. Sounds like total chaos. I would think an appointment would be the only sane way to determine who takes priority. RMX
The main (casino level) floor of the dealership has a limited number of cars, all new. But the lower level, where they have the pre-owned cars, has probably 30 or so vehicles. Most are for sale (and not just to NV residents); a couple, like Penske's F50, are just on display.
LZ, Ahhh another NON ower heard from. And My point with he Magnum story, If you had read it, was that MOST Ferrari owners enjoy the attention THEY get due to the car THEY own. So when I hear the high and mighty preach that they are not a part of that mentailty I laugh.... it's all BS. I have been around exotics for most of my adult life and I see idiots all the time that want to moan about posers and that the "wrong" people own their car yet they don't shy away from the attention the car gets them. Car and Driver had a tape out a fe years ago. It was a top ten exotics. I used to love watching the ower of a Countach talk. She actually said " I like how my car makes other people feel.... it lets the get out of their little lives for awhile." And the others were just as amusing. Hearing some nitwit talk about how his F40 drives and then to watch the in car cam as he overcooks an onramp. Typical Fcar owner... think they are part of the heritage. It's funny that I really don't find Lotus owers or P car owners that act this was as often. They don't use silly words like "tifiso".
I will stop at this point. I agree with Christian.... to the rest... esp the non owners.... don't buy a Ferrari.... you might end up next to a lotto winner when you are waiting for service and I know you could not stand for that. Better still.... let's all call the factory and demand that they only sell by peer vote. ROFL...
You are a mess. If you are going to quote, at least get the quote right. Check out how this works : Very different than : As in "we" is some kind of group of Exclusive Ferrari owners. No, I said ANYONE. You think once he gets his F-Car after throwing a fit, he will be any less of blowhard? My point is, I have known several people that have been to the Wynn casino (family, friends, f-chatters, etc) and it is not hard to talk to the sales people and buy a car. To read the article, to *me*, it sounded like he went in there making demands. I'm sure the sales people there get that a lot & since they aren't under any pressure to actually sell the cars, guess what - They turned him away.
