I'd like an opinion to this question: Did all U.S.-spec 328s, particularly the '86s, come with a grille in the lower black spoiler? When I bought my '86 a couple of years ago, it did not have a grille in the spoiler, nor did it seem to have any attachment points for one. But after damaging the spoiler, I had it rebuilt at a body shop. The owner said he substituted the remnants of another 328 spoiler for most of mine, and the rebuilt spoiler, now back on the car, looks beautiful. But this one has attachments for a grille! And I guess I ought to get one, since the lugs look peculiar without anything attached to them. I think I've seen other '86s without lower grilles, but the body shop owner (an old hand at Ferraris, and a former 328 owner) contends that they all came with the grille. Does anyone have evidence either pro or con?
Not sure what you're asking - do you mean the grill that the exhaust pipes poke through? A picture could, in this case, say a 1000 words....
Mine also has a black plastic grille within the black front spoiler. (This is in addition to the aluminum grille in the bumper housing itself.) April '87 328, #71403
That would be aluminium, black coated? At least, that is what mine is. Here's a pic, never mind the crappy plate brackets Image Unavailable, Please Login
You're right, I went down to the garage and checked: mine's aluminum - same material as rear deck lid vents, it appears.
Well, since yours is of similar vintage to my #62319, I guess it was just missing (along with its attachment points) when I bought the car. Maybe that's why the spoiler looked a bit warped; I guess the grille does give a bit of rigidity. Now that the repaired spoiler has the attachment points, I'll go out and get a grille.
