Did anyone see the Chasing Classics on Porsches?

I was happy to see an episode on Porsche, especially early Porsche.

What I did not understand at all was how/why an unrestored early 1965 car (just an ordinary 911 - no history, nothing special other than a suppsoedly low VIN) could be purchased for $68K by an experienced rare car dealer who actually expected to sell it on the Internet at $100K or so...he had just turned down a silver Dino for about $100K that would have seemed to carry a lot more potential.

Do I need to be sent to a re-education camp on early Porsche 911 values? Have I been reading Hemmings cross-eyed lately? Is there a magical potion out there than can be sprayed on such a car to "de-rust" it without bodywork?
