on the Speed Channel...it was wild...the mustang has flames and sparks shooting out of it on lift off at the starting line and breaks a driveshaft... they give the guy 15 minutes to repair/replace his driveshaft and get back onteh startingline for the next race or default, with the car on the line...a spectator with a street mustang donates his drives shaft and they remove/replace teh driveshaft in 15 minutes...I didn't think that was possible . .. I am still skeptical since I think this is just scripted entertainment and not real...any thoughts?

Driveshafts are really easy to remove as long as you can get the car moderately high in the air, and have good impact tools.

Yes it can...only 4 bolts and it's out! What actually broke was the u-joint. It was one of the hollow joints with grease zerks. Not strong enough for drag racing. Both of those cars were mighty quick. I wish they would show the quarter mile times just for curiosity. Personally I would like to see more heads-up racing on the show. That's what street racing is mostly about. Run what ya brung and hope you don't break or make a mistake. Back in my younger days I "dabbled" in this sorta fun....but I'd never give somebody more than maybe 3 car lengths...too many things to go wrong. I used to run a 68 Olds 442 with a serious torque-monster bored/stroked 455. One night I was running another built up Olds with a tunnel ram poking through his hood....but he lacked the low end grunt. So off the line I leaped out in front....my car hooked up so hard I blew out the back window! I won the race but was quite shaken up. I was running a built turbo-400 tranny and on each shift I could see the gap above the driver's door flex about a quarter inch! That car sure had some balls....I mean torque.....!

Compared to last seasons shows, this was the best one so far by a long shot. They even brought in 2 guys from last season that were race participants from different shows as "Professional Consultants" for each side. I wouldn't call them professionals, but what do I know. They need to get a few guys that I know who used to Professionally Drag back in the 60's & 70's. They would look at these guys today and laugh. But that is why they call it "ENTERTAINMENT". The greatest part about watching the show is how much smack talk goes on between the racers. All in all, I like the show. THANK YOU TIVO!

in high school my best freind inherited a hand me down olds 442 convertible from his brother who moved on to a GTO fastback...we all packed in the car and he would take it up to max speed ( we were young , naive and esily led astray. the car was awesome powerful and a over 100 + the car would still have tremendous power and the hood would shake like hell ( that is when I learned to appreciate those "pins" inthe fron that held down the hood and since it was a convertible the presure built up in the cockpit would literally tear away the side panels of the convertible ..it was wild.... real american muscle ... p.s. I was into imported european sports cars and had a jaguar xke while all my buds had chargers, AMX, gto, mustang and the very popular firebird t topped smokey and the bandit car... insane times..cheap gas, cheap HP and all the cars could fit all your friends and girls for a night out and with just a few bucks in your pocket you could have gas money and that was all you needed...

I have a 93 stang. 15 mins is about 10 mins more than what you need to pull the drive shaft and replace it in a mustang. I've done clutch and tranny jobs on these cars several times and with everything going wrong all you need is 5 mins. I saw this episode too, the guy that lost was a real d***, i'm glad he lost his car.

For all the times I watched the show, that guy that lost was the first guy that ever "took a win" when the other car simply spilled some fuel at the start...you knew everyone was rooting for him to lose after that.

Yeah, like the show host said, it's a chicken s*** way to win.
