First post, I guess appropriate given I finally dove in and have an 05 430 spider arriving friday. That said, wanted to get people's thoughts/give them a heads up. Had been looking at an 07 with a clean carfax but found out at the last moment that the rt side door had been off color (heard this from the guys that had been servicing it in ny) after which I confronted the dealer who then stated, dont worry, they repainted not only the door but the front and rear quarter panels so they all match. I didnt find that funny. Car is at st Louis Motorsports. Rosso corsa, on eBay at 159k. Perhaps I overreacted but didn't want to step into a story car (no explanation given so could have been keyed, a shopping cart or a tree, who knows, was "the owner before the owner we got it from") and to the extent others have been lurking and looking, thought I'd give a heads up. Led me to get a ppi on the 05 I just bought so I guess there was a silver lining. Let me know if I'm nuts.
Congratulations on the 05 430! Welcome... 1. You dont want a ferrari with unmatched panels. looks bad on a Civic, worse on a F430. 2. As you stated the damage could have been minor or near totaled, you dont know. 3. (most important) If the owner did not spend the money to get a quality paint job, then where else on the repair and ownership this they cut corners? Possibly everywhere. Trophy wife could have one C and one D for all we know! I would have walked on the 07 as well.
That's a good heads up to those lurking and currently in the market, or in the market in the future. Can you tell us the VIN of the car you ended up purchasing? In November, 2008, 153686 was for sale through Gary Giglio of Irvington, NY, with 2,239 miles. Red with tan interior, Daytona seats with red piping, manual, shields, Challenge wheels, yellow calipers - sounds like a beautiful car! Maybe someone interested in this car can get ahold of Gary and see if he knows why one side of the car was repainted.
