I might have finally found my car. Taking a little bit of road trip Thursday and if everything checks out on the car (the seller seems to be one of those underselling his own car type of guys) I will be back home Friday with a '79 GTS. Some might be aware, but others might not, this would be my first Ferrari.

No, not that car. I saw the car you are referencing on craigslist. There were a couple requirments that I kind of grew out of for my 308. The one I could not give up on though was getting a carbed car.

Cool. The one in CT looked pretty clean and a decent price for sure. It was carbed, although it had cats.

Looking back, if it was available still I probably would have picked it up if it checked out in person, but deep in my heart I want to add a 348 (yellow, black or red) to my 1976 308, so maybe its how it supposed to go.

Hope your new 308 works out. They are 100% awesome cars. Everytime I drive mine I go wholy crap!!

Don't worry. My buddy and I are going to give the car a very thorough 'going over' before any money changes hands. We are going to bring down his enclosed trailer and everything we will need will be on hand. The seller is encouraging me to go through the car as much as possible. Honestly I don't really trust other mechanics (got burnt on a PPI on Porsche 930 that ended up having a broken head stud years ago) doing PPIs. I feel I now know enough to trust my own eyes as opposed to some mechanic I have never met before who may be best buds with the seller. My buddy is a professional with many years experience and will be sure to find anything that I may miss.

As you perform the PPI go through all the small items too. Doing all the big things is a given. Then check all the small items too. The current owner may not even know of some discrepancies. Even if you are not intending to show the car this is an opportunity to inspect it that way.

Are all the dash lights working? Is the light on the bottom of the emergency brake illuminating. Operate each and every switch and lever; not only does the item it controls work but does the switch or lever operate smoothly.

Pull the spare tire and look in the well.

Inventory the tool roll, jack bag, manuals pouch and the spare bulb container. Is every item that is supposed to be there present?

Remove the top and look at the foam seals. Look at all the lid seals/gaskets.

Are all the engine compartment stickers installed and in good shape?

On the minor items I am not saying to walk away from the deal because of them but it is better for you to understand exactly what be on the "to do" list for your future and/or to get some consideration from the seller. The Ferrari parts are amazingly expensive.

If you are not already familiar with the all details study up!

    Jeff

Thanks! Great point. I will be trying to familiarize myself with all the 'little bits' that are supposed to be there before taken off this evening. One thing that I have going for me is that the seller has another '79 GTS in a little better condition that I can compare said switches, seals, stickers ect with.
