Hey all, Well, today a lot of work took place on my 308. Got all eight new injectors and seals in and then set out to replace the distributor caps, rotors, plugs, wires and extenders. Anyways, I have a question as I hope I didn't do something dumb but here goes... After I installed my new Magnecor wires into the first dizzy cap, I had to pull one of them back out because I accidentally snaked it through one of the wire holders that bolts to the cam cover (it didn't need to go through it, as it was for #4 cylinder). Anyways, I'm hoping I didn't damage the wire by screwing it in then having to take it out then screwing it back in again (basically, I'm hoping I didn't create a spark "leak" by putting two holes into the end of the wire - does that make sense?). I tried to put the wire back into the cap exactly in the same position as it came out so I didn't need to poke a new hole again with the set screw, but I'm not positive it is in exactly the same spot. Anyways, I went ahead and put it back in and got the "rear" bank done. Tomorrow the front bank is on deck as well as a new air filter and new plenum gaskets to cap it all off! By the way, on a side note, what is the resistance supposed to be across the terminals on my WUR (this is for an '82 GTSi)? I want to test it because I've been experiencing a bit of a cold start problem as of late. Cheers, Aaron '82 GTSi '83 400iA
for the WUR check the supply voltage, should be 11.5v. to check the operation of the WUR requires pressure eq. and gauges, CIS test eq can be bought online for about $100.
No need to worry, there's no "leak" unless you've given the spark a convenient path to ground. Note that the end of the wire there in the cap also has an exposed end! If you were terribly worried, you could cut 1/2" off the end of the wire and start again from scratch...
Anything around 20 Ohms should be fine. That connection isn't anything fancy, it's just to a resistive heater for the bimetalic strip inside. So as long as it's not 0, or a very large reading, you're probably OK.
Thanks all for the replies. Good point about the end of the wire being open as well don xvi! I guess I had a brain fart! And thank you jdubois for the spec on the WUR. Going to test it today.
