My TiVo shows "Summer School" on Friday. Could this be in error?
Apologies, Anteriore for any confusion. I was inquiring whether the 1981 308 GTSI chassis #34567 used on Magnum PI series has ever been located?
Get it straight, Selleck is 6 Ft 4 , the 308s had to be modified, anyone over 6 ft / 6 ft 1 will not fit in the car correctly and be able to drive it correctly without the seat all the way back and even that is not for certain. Folks that are 6 ft 1 and taller, your knees will be hitting the steering wheel, and your head is going to be hitting the roof , and in some instances the seat position will not matter, your not going to fit in the car correctly without ripping out the seats and changing them , and thats not for certain either. Yes, taller people can cram themselves into these cars, but being able to drive them correctly is not going to happen. G
You guys have it all wrong. Magnum never drove a 308 or a 328. He drove a Porsche 928 which better suited his 6’4” frame. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Gino you are incorrect! I am 6'3" and 225 lbs. I fit in the car and can drive it correctly! Getting in and out is not the easiest, but once in, the car fits like a glove! I have made many 6-8 hr. trips in the car with no more discomfort than any other vehicle I have!
I can ride a Honda grom, and Im a 36 inch waist, but I can fit in a 32 " pair of jeans if I suck my mid section in enough, good grief Charlie Brown ..lol Like I said, keep fooling yourself...lol A child would know ...I know these cars inside an out from a drivers perspective, 25 years and 105,000 miles, your out of your mind , with all due respect, " yeh, Im 6ft 3, 225 lbs, but I can fit in a Ferrari 3 x 8 that was made for Italians that are the size of F1 drivers " But like I said, you keep telling yourself that, every time you squeeze yourself into that car, your car which by the way, have the worst seats that ever came in any high end sports car made in the entire world , period ....They suck ass every day of the week and twice on Sunday, so theres that. Big G Big G
Look closely at that episode, they used two different green 308's. They must have painted a red one that color, What are the odds of securing two THAT color?
BTW, there was a scene in Magnum where a 328 was used. The 328 wasn't someone else's car (like this green one). It was Robin Masters and Magnum was, supposedly, sitting it it with someone else.
Overall height is one measure; some people are tall with longer legs and shorter toros and visa versa, so maybe some car's had to be modded for Tom. ill be those stunt drivers had tremendous fun tearing up and driving the wheels of those 308s, all on closed roads in hawaii, wonder is there are some stories to go with that. my personal magnum Pi inspired story. grew up watching the show, and there is this scene where he does a 45 degree peel out from the estate. Age 21 early 80s home for the supper folks have a friend over for dinner and he tells me he has a Testarossa. Really nice guy sees Im into cars and says come over on sat and you can take it for a drive. Broter and I go over to the gusy house sat, and i think hes maybe goign to let me drive it around the block while he sits in the passenger seat. he pulls it out, gives me the keys and says have fun kids. So we take it out on this stretch of highway, get it up to an indicated 155 on a downhill run. Pull off the highway, and now Im at the exit a stop sign on an overpass. its a 45 degree left turn to cross the highway and go back the other way. I rev the engine drop the clutch( the rear diff carrier and the clutch stay together) and do that magnum pi 45 degree peel out. A year ago out to dinner with the folks, and they point the Ferrari tr guy out to me at the next table. I go over shake his hand and say been waiting to meet you again and thank you for letting me drive your Tr all those years ago, he was so happy, some good deeds are remebered. magnum Pi provided the dream. that Tr experience gave lots of motivation to make the scratch to get a ferrai, but i would never throw the keys of my new exotic to a 21 yo and say have fun kid, cause I know what theyre going to do. Ill bet those Pi stunt drivers did it all the time too. Some of those things you can do with a new Ferrari, when youre not paying the bills or worried about the outcome. Which is not to say you shouldn't drive your ferrai fast, you should cause they're designed for that, warm it up properly and then let that engine sing to the redline with each shift, yeeha.
Same - I'm 6'2" and 225lbs and the 308 is super comfortable to drive. Adding the spacer under the steering wheel made a nice difference in creating more room for the knees.
I have a 328 GTB 86, my 7 ft friend does fit but can’t use the indicators or wipers due to his knees when driving. Seat is three quarter back, back of seat full retarded. He can’t drive a 328 GTS 89 abs with roof on. He fits in all modern 911s. He drives a Range Rover. Sent from my iPhone using FerrariChat
7 ft tall is another ball game (no pun intended). That said, for the legs/knees part, adding a spacer dramatically changes that. Highly recommend to anyone whose knees touch the wheel or indicators. There's even a larger spacer that Hill Engineering sells but even the smaller 25mm one was plenty extra room for me.
It's funny, if you stay on Ferrarichat long enough you see the same threads repeated over and over. Timing belts, oil brand/type, etc. This is one of them. Did Magnum ever use a 328. The answer is: yes(sorta). There is an episode, that Tommy, already mentioned where it looks like they needed to add a scene. It's Magnum and a women inside a 328 with a tan interior. It's supposed to be Magnum's car, and it's supposed to be Magnum and this lady in the car but the camera is intentionally pointed down, so you just see the car's interior, and maybe legs. No faces. But, the interior is 100% a 328. That's it, that's the only 328 even used in Magnum is anyway. I would go back and search for the exact episode in former threads, as it has been listed, but it would be hard to search on such a common topic. It was "found" by either Tommy or I. It's been so long, I can't remember who gets credit.
Here is a thread from 11 years ago. Tommy posted, but gives credit to Brian. Wasn't actually hard to find. https://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/threads/they-did-use-a-328-on-magnum-check-it-out.384957/
A bit off-topic but a co-worker of mine sent me this recently... the story is he was stationed at Pearl Harbor back in his Navy days. He sometimes would eat his lunch in a nearby hangar with a view of the ships coming in and out of the harbor. Anyway he went there one day only to find they were filming an episode of Magnum P.I. He was into photography at the time and asked if he could take some photos. They allowed him in and he got to meet Tom Selleck and Tom let him sit in his chair while they did filming or rehearsals. My co-worker said he was a super nice guy. He's in the first photo standing with Tom Selleck although I "cut out" his face. Was that the episode where someone stashed drugs on TC's H-500 and the Coast Guard busted him and impounded the chopper?
