Did my fuel filter get installed backwards?

Hey all, just got my car back (87' TR) with new pumps, filters and the full plug/ignition kit. It runs great, but I noticed something:

The drivers side fuel filter is installed in a different direction than the passenger side.

These are the BOSCH 0 450 905 601 filters and I purchased them from AW.

I talked to Steve and he mentioned the directional arrow. I see that on my older ones, however on these new ones there is no arrow, only a black dot (like a sharpie smudge) on the wider end. Is it possible they aren't directional or did my guy's tech make a mistake?

The car runs better than it has before. Would it hurt to drive it like this if indeed it is backward?

Confirmed it is. With the help/advice of Steve the Man (and a few swigs of liquid courage) I'm going to flip this sucker around this Evening!
