You guys actually helped out with some comments and recommendations for a PPI. I would have bought the car for around $27K given it's standard of maintenance, subject to the PPI. The mileage didn't bother me. There seems to be a good deal of interest in it so that doesn't appear to bother anyone else. I think we determined that the original color was something else. Anyone here bidding?
Not I. She'd kill me if I bought another car right now. Of course if I did, and then she did, I'm insured for enough dough that she'd just dump the cars and you'd end up with a great deal. Guess I need to start being really careful, or reduce the life insurance.
....and by the way, this car was "sold" on ebay early this year for around $29k by this dealer. Obvoiusly the bidder backed out for some reason.
Hmm, sounds fishy. I guess the car is not a nice as it seems. I know I had my issues with the dealer. A nice person, but kind of tough to connect with and not very interested in really selling the car when I talked to him. Go on Dave, buy it, you know u want another one...
It's significantly more than I paid for my car last year. But I was lucky. $24k? I can't complain. Caption says: "...with all the mechanicals rebuilt to the tune of over $27,000. That's right, just drive it without having to spend thousands as you will with others just to make it correct and road worthy." Although, that head looks like it's been on there awhile and there's quite a lot of grease built-up around the bottom of the carbs, for it to be a very recent "rebuild". I'm not so sure that wasn't shill bidding. I have NO PROOF of that, and I don't mean to knock the seller/dealer, but I watch some cars on Ebay sell, and pop right back up on Ebay a few months later. I think its easy to create a "2nd ID" and just bid up the car to where you want it. There was a red/tan 400i (original white car?) that was a convertible out of Ohio a year or 2 ago on ebay, it sold 3 times at EXACTLY 29,500 each time, which coencidentially was the same amount of buy-it-now price before bidding. It didn't really look like a good car (not that I was serious at that time), but sure enough, it kept popping back up. I've never sold on ebay, but I've seen suspicious behavior when I've bought that indicated the seller was bidding up his item. James in Denver
I haven't bought (or sold) on Ebay yet. What fee would the seller have to pay to 'win' their own car?
Thats an interesting point, but that also assumes the "deal" completes. I know there is a "re-listing fee" if you have to relist a car (or whatever you're selling). I would assume that the "buyer" never really pays for the car, and the seller emails/contacts ebay to "re-list" the car. "Buyer backed out..." "Financing fell thru..." some excuse like that. I would imagine though, that if the transaction was actually completed, there would be a fee. I've never sold on ebay, but I think other FChatters have. Someone should know. While I'm commenting on ebay, seems also to be a trend to use a woman's name or sell under the wife/girlfriend/daughter's name. There was a Ferrari on ebay recently (still there?) that was being sold by a very strange cutesy name. I looked up the recent history (via feedback) and they had bought women's/girls shoes, designer womens teenage jeans, cutesy dolls, etc. Then BAM! A very expensive Ferrari (360)????!!!!????? That just flat out sounds strange to me. I've had pretty good luck so far buying on ebay (knock on wood), but there are strange things that go on. James in Denver
Vince: Have you owned or driven a 308GT4? I'm curious to hear what your impression was, especially in contrast to the 348. Actually this question extends to anyone that has driven both.
I have a 78 GT4 and have driven a 348 (my first F car experience) The 348 was awesome, and although I had a instructor with me arround a track felt exactly as I guessed a Ferrari would feel. Then I bought the GT4, and it is different, heavy clutch, heavy brakes no power steering - and its great fun! I am not a great driver but the GT4 forgives you if you make a mistake, I have lost it a few times in snow and wet, and each time the GT4 has helped me out of a disaster. I drove tne 348 around a track and the GT4 is my daily drive. Regards Nick
I guess you guys have known this for awhile, but I'm just starting to 'discover' how cool thes GT4's are. Alas I've got no garage space so I'll have to enjoy them through your posts.
I own a GT4 and have driven a 348. The 348 has a much better clutch, feels very smooth at all engine speeds, and sounds incredible at high rpm. On the downside the cable operated gear lever feels clumsy, and overall the driving experience is more muted. The GT4 really gives you a vintage racing experience. The sound of the carbs is addictive and the car feels very responsive and involving. It's a classic car and its shortcomings seem irrelevant when behind the wheel. On a twisty road, the GT4 can make the hairs on your neck stand up; its got enough power and agility to impress you each time you push it. Rocco
Good post Rocco, I describe it as a car that feels "raw". You hear the exhaust & carbs and feel every ripple in the pavement. You have to drive it; you don't ride in it.
Nope I'm inexperienced. But I have driven 308's and there is a world of difference between them and 348's. The first thing u notice is the suspension stiffness in the 348 and the lack of lateral tire flex along with a firmer ride. Of course, the 308 felt much smaller, like putting on the car. Funny thing is that the 348 is also a small car. I like both but u have to remember that the older car is just that, an older sports car and drive it as such. Even if you hop out of your basic Honda into your 308, you are gonna have problems transitioning. Sound wise, the carb mechanicals just cannot be replicated on the newer cars - pure auditory pleasure. As for the sale, we'll see I guess. I would have easily paid that price for this car and just bit the bullet to make it right for CA - smog pumps were missing. But as I said, connecting with this elusive dealer was frustrating and I ran out of patience, or rather better cars come along all the time.
Ditto!!! My next door neighbor has a F355--fabulous car; but my GT4 is a much more involving experience
