I'm actually writing an interpersonal communication paper on self fulfilling prophecies and thought nothing quite like some real research. So anyway, did you KNOW that you would own a Ferrari one day? Was it a goal that you strived for or was it simply a bi-product of another goal?

    Thanks in advance chaps :)

I can confidently say the oldest goal I've had in my life was 2 own a ferrari. I promised myself in 1983 that I would work toward this goal. I bought my 1st f-car on 12/23/08. I feel a wonderful sense of accomplishment and even relief that I have been able to fullfill my dream.

    Yep, it was a goal.

Ferrari ownership was never a question of "IF" merely a question of "WHEN."

Yes. Fcar ownership was a singular goal but I guess you can consider it a byproduct as well because other goals needed to be achieved first in order for me to make fcar ownership a reality.

When you want something bad enough you will make it happen so the answer is yes.

But ask me then and my answer would of been I hope so.

Always. They're like beautiful women. If you're around them frequently, you do what it takes to get one (or two, or three... :D).

I blame it all on Steve Barney. At the Mille Miglia Storica one year, at a large dinner at a villa on Lake Garda (with Steve Tillack, Mark Dees and Martin Swig present), Barney stood up to make an announcement and write on a piece of paper, "Peter K will own a Ferrari in five years or be condemned to eternal flakery!" He stuck it in his wallet and pulled it out for ten years after that!

Took a little longer than five years, but it was a great 40th b-day present. As noted before, those who can, do.

Besides, Barney never let me forget that night. :)

After Enzo died and Ferrari prices went ballistic, I was pretty well convinced that I would *not* own a Ferrari.
Right up until I bought one. ;)

But in terms of being a "bi-product of another goal", in retrospect it seems inevitable.

I've always been very demanding about vehicle handling, from any car I've owned. So it's only logical I'd wind up with a car designed to that specification.

I looked at a lot of different cars, at the time, and the 328 was just the best choice of the bunch.
But if precise handling is the criteria, a street-legal shifter kart is going to be the best choice. ;)

+1 on this. I wanted one when I was in high school/first undergrad, but then they went stupid expensive and I just let them go. It wasn't until I was surfing the web back in 99 or so that I realized the prices had fallen back to sane(ish) levels. By that point my random life had led me to a point where a toy car was sort of feasible, and by 02 I had pulled the trigger.

It wasn't the smartest buy for a poor boy, but if I had invested the money back then I would just have lost that in the divorce anyway :D

I only dreamed of cars like this. Hell, I never thought I own any car without debt on it. I would always be driving the banks car. Later on when I made a little money it was hard to part with it on a car and I felt guilty. Sometimes I still do. On the other hand, life is a experience that should have it's pleasures. If you work and make it and don't take money from your family's needs then what the hay.

I never thought I would own a Ferrari. In fact I never considered it until the opportunity came about. Coming from a rather poor family the thought never crossed my mind. I was always into fixing things and with my 1st car being a Triumph TR3A it put me on the path of owning foreign cars. After HS I lucked out in getting a good job and started saving for my Corvette. I got it and continued to work , get married , have kids , new house and so on. I kept my fingers in buying used Jaguar's (low cost , always need repairs) and worked as much as possible. I always liked Ferrari's and when Magnum ran on TV I wished I could buy one but knew it was out of my price range. So I never considered it. Then I saw this 308 while away on business and talked it over with my CFO and she said it is doable. So I worked out a price and dug into some of my stocks/cash and got the car. I've had it for 10 years and love to drive it. I'll sell it when I can't get out of it.

It was a goal from about the age of 20 to own a Ferrari when I was 25 - but by the time I was 24 prices were escalating so quickly It seemed I'd never get there (it was the late 80's).
When I was 25 I *could* have just afforded to buy one, so on one level the goal was reached, but I invested in some real estate instead. I probably would have never got around to buying a Ferrari (always choosing instead to do more fiscally conservative things instead), but after a serious bout of illness in my early 30's and the shocking realization I was not immortal, I decided it was time to start on the things I was always "gunna" do, so I finally bought a Ferrari when I was 33.

I think having dreams and goal setting has been absolutely crucial for me - it's kept me focused and provided the motivation that got me where I am today. Once I decided I wanted a Ferrari, I knew I'd get one someday.

I actually made a bet with a buddy in high school that we'd each have one before the age of 40 (man, 40 seemed so long away back in 1988)...fast forward to our 20th HS reunion last November when we reconnect...he is still into cars, though is more mechanical than I and went with a Cobra replicate that he works on all the time...as for me, I am waiting for the delivery call on my first, a 360 Coupe, that should be arriving within the next day or so.

    Yes, I always knew.

New goal now - from here on out, never be without one.

Have I always wanted an F355 Spider in Red/Tan? Absolutely. Ever since I was 15.
but I was never "sure" I would own one, especially at 28 years old. You just never really know what kind of pitches life is going to throw you. Luckily, I have been fortunate enough to have a high batting average thus far.

    The funny thing is...
My wife had always made fun of me. "How can owning a car be one of your life's goals?"
Well, because in order for me to own that car, I need to have my finances in order, make sure my family
was taken care of, own a house, have at least one if not two other cars to use day to day, Make sure there are funds put aside for a rainy day, etc etc. Owning the car meant those priorities were met.

I'm still not sure which feels better, owning the car or the underlying things it represents..
Everytime I walk past it in the garage, I still can't believe it's mine. I'm waiting for someone to come take it back.

I do not own a Ferrari yet; but I know that one day, I WILL own one. I am a 16 year old high-school student and I have worked hard and will CONTINUE to work hard...all the way through college and medical school. I'm aware that I am taking on some difficult tasks, but in the end, the reward will be greater than I could have ever imagined. I WILL own a Ferrari.

I always liked the pictures of the Ferraris in the car magazines when I was young. But, that isn't what hooked me.

It was the day I saw a dark blue Dino 246 GT parked on the side of a road where I was walking on the sidewalk. I must have been 12 or so, but I studied the lines of that car for quite a while in the bright sunlight of Southern California. I made a commitment to myself that some day I would own one of these exotic looking machines.

A few years later, I got to hear a 275 GTB drive by. Those sounds of a flat-crank 12-cylinder revving up in RPMs with every shift, combined with my earlier Dino sighting, positioned the Ferrari car brand permanently into the "must have some day" category.

Yes, I knew sooner or later I'd own one. I remember the feeling after putting the 328 away in the garage for the first time and looking at it there in the garage was like the first time I'd bought my own house (well condo) instead of renting...that shiver and sense of accomplishment.

I never even considered it up until 6 months before i actually purchased my 308. i was talking with a co-worker on how cool the 308 was, and i thought that if i sold my 70 vette convertible it would cover the cost of a 308. sold the vette for 27K and bought the euro carby 308 i have had for over 10 years now for 24K off ebay - it has been the most reliable car i have ever owned.......

I knew since I saw the movie "Gran prix". Then, at 23, I found and bought a basket case 246 Dino gt and started my life long adventure.

From as far back as I can remember it has been one of my major goals in life. But like others have said, meeting the Ferrari goal means many other goals have to be met along the way. Anyway, I was about your age when I KNEW I would one day one one. I wasn't sure how or when exactly, but I knew it would only be a matter of time and a lot of hard work in between. I took the working hard through college and med school route you are planning on. Fast forward a few years, and there is a red Ferrari (albeit "just" a Mondial, but every bit a Ferrari) parked about 20 feet away from where I sit typing this. I ended up with my first one a few years earlier than I thought I would, not through my medical career but through a lot of hard work with some investment properties and having everything else financially in order in the meantime. I think having the goal and KNOWING you are going to meet it is the biggest part. If you don't aim high, you can be assured you well never hit a high mark. I can say this confidence guys: G.B. WILL own a Ferrari one day.

Now, it is on to working on the next Ferrari goal for me, which will be a red F355 GTS or GTB. I am thinking about two to three years away.
