As I mentioned in part one of this review, I was disappointed that the Kyosho did not have the split pins on the wheels, especially as they did it so well on their 1/12th scale F40s. In general, the wheels on both models are nicely executed but the Kyosho's moulding just looks more like the real thing. I would have preferred them to be moulded in chrome with the wheels centres painted flat aluminium - I can only imagine how realistic that would look! I added split pins to the Elite's wheels the day I got it and painted the wheel centres - do I do the same to the Kyosho's? Hmmm. Although you can't see much of them on both models the Kyosho brake disc and caliper detail is just a bit better. Again, the Kyosho has the correct tyre tread pattern but apart from that there's not much to choose.

Moving onto the interior the Kyosho F40 is the standard road car - the Elite is based on more of a track car with the stripped out door panels and perspex side windows. Saying that, the Kyosho just looks that little bit more refined and toned down - it doesn't suffer from the 'furry' seats that the Elite does and the dash board is again more accurate along with the gear lever and the pedals. The Kyosho's seats have carbon fibre backs and additional carbon fibre decals on the 'tub'. Of course the forthcoming 'lightweight' F40 from Kyosho will have the same spec interior as this Elite.

To sum up I'll start by reminding you all that the Elite did start out as the old Bburago F40 which I had as a model nearly 20 years ago! However I have to say that the Kyosho is the winner here but not by as much as I was expecting. It is that bit more accurate, more refined and delicately executed and if I didn't already own a 'quality' F40 model I would go straight for it. However, If I already had the Elite I'm not sure that the Kyosho is worth the additional outlay. Oh what am I saying? I do have the Elite and I have bought the Kyosho - I love Kyosho Ferraris and I can't wait for all the others coming our way!!!!

It will be interesting to see what further modifications Hotwheels/Mattel make to their F40 to bring us their F40 LM - I can't wait for that either!

    Do I sell the Elite?

    Hell Yes!
Sell the Elite...to me for $1.00. You can't have that car sitting next to your Kyosho.

I seem to respectfully disagree with some points made in the F40 comparison. The Elite is a NICER model than the BBurago original but no match at all for the Kyosho.
First lets see the cars they are based off. The Kyosho is a reproduction of the latter production F40s, with the roll down windows. The Bburago was a representation of the very first F40, or you may argue , Enzo's personal F40.
In the HW model the entire rear frame is nothing resembling the real car, whether on the Kyosho it is an accurate representation. Main beef I have with the HW model is that the entire engine plenum is highly incorrect. This engine belongs in the 288GTO Evoluzione. Same can be said about the seats, but there have been some F40LM with a single seat like this. Again they are accurate to the very first F40. Also under the front there is no comparison which you can see just when the radiator on the HW goes up with the hood and there is no plumbing on it. Also the detail on the shocks, brakes and brake ducts is pretty much absent on the HW.
Another point I would like to make is that when both models came out they were pretty much the same price, which in my opinion drops the HW model out of contention all together.
On the pictures of the wheels posted, you can see how much poorer the fit and finish is on the HW. If you scale it up in real life the gaps on the shutlines on the HW would be enough to stick your hand in it.
    Just my 2 cents.

Keep the comparos and reviews coming tho.
