Die-cast vs. Resin Model Ferraris

I nealry bought it when I was on honeymoon in Italy. We went to Maranello for a day and I couldn't believe it when I saw it in a shop there. I'm sure it was only 189 Euros. I don't know why I didn't buy it. Even my wife told me to get it.

Anyway, I wish I had bought it but I'm going to try a build one myself using a Bburago 1/18 as a basis. Nice model though.

 

It's very nice. They're just such a pain to photograph with a flash. The reflections ruin the picture. I use normally a powerful halogen light source.

 

That looks great, Rob... Love it! For some reason, I really like the white-letter tires, too. I know the 1/12 Tamiya has white-letters on the road car, which are incorrect, but I always thought that the lettering made the car look "racey."

It really comes down to "builder collectors" and "buyer collectors". Builders like the satisfaction of having cars in the collection that aren't common. Just look at the postings in the "post pics of your collection" thread and you'll see alot of the same stuff. Resin fills the need for different. And, resin models don't have that "thick" look most mass-produced DC cars have. If properly painted of course. I'm a builder, but I buy DC when feeling lazy.
Also, scale doesn't matter normally. If it's a subject you want, it gets a space on the shelf!

In regards to resin: I much prefer plastic for building models, easier to deal with, easier to paint and not toxic. But if resin is the only way to get a particular model, then so be it. However thinking about all my models, I can't name a single car made in resin (however lots of space models in resin). The kits I built were all either plastic or metal.
