Can anyone PLEASE HELP? In error, my BB has been filled with premium diesel!!!!!!!! On realising the error the car was not driven. Can anyone tell me what to do next as I do not want to damage the engine. Cheers Steve
Usual recommendation is drain tank flush tank & lines & change fuel filter But can you clarify if ignition was turned on ie fuel pumps ran as that may require more work
This pretty much sums it up...If it makes you feel any better, it is far safer (less damage done) to fill a gas car with Diesel, then a Diesel car with gas... Worse case, you'll be rebuilding the carbs to get the last remains of the Diesel out... Good luck, David
Ha, I thought from the title that someone had flipped and tossed a big ol' something or another diesel engine into a boxer! The posts above sum up the fix. John
Except for airplanes, in which a gasoline plane filled with diesel is about as bad as it gets. They start and run just long enough to get you into really, really bad trouble.
Cheers Everyone, The ignition was off (luckily) so have managed to drain the fuel tank and flush it through. Finally got her started and have since been on an hours test drive to check everything is ok. There is no pinking so hopefully may have got away with a carb rebuild (fingers crossed) I will never make that error again!!!!!!! Regards Steve
Funny James... I can't say I've had too many planes in my shop. I learned something new today...Thank you! David
Well, I guess there's one good reason for the dumbing down of everything nowadays: I don't even think you could do that here in the US on my US TR, right? If I remember right it wouldn't make it past the fill pipe restrictor.
glad to hear all ok steve & hopefully we will have a run out of the north west england 365 club soon!
Sounds like a good plan H, Thanks for the Guinness it was very much appreciated. Your BB looked very much at home in the Cheshire countryside - pity mine wasn't following in convoy!!! Cheers Steve
Dear Ferraristi, Ohhh....this was done by someone in Europe. OK. To find Diesel pumps next to a gasoline pump at a typical gas station is not very common in America. Shamile Freeze...Miami Vice!
about 10 yrs ago, i put a solid 1/2 tank of diesel in my bora...no worries, i put the balance of super in the car and she ran albeit stuttering some. i just continued to add more supe unleaded as i ran th tank down.
almost as bad as putting motor oil in an automatic transmission. picture a kid in a new So. Cal gas station job. 17 or so... hot summer night - 11:00pm the oil rack cans are all marked in similar patterns with only text and color changes for differentiation. a low rider trio drives in... the green impala hisses its way down to the pavement as they stop complaints of a slipping transmission are offerred the tranny gets checked half qt of the blue can goes in before "Oh Sh*t!" 30W it is... "yikes" - the kid thinks.... "I'm gonna get shot when they see this can" a fast shuffle and they drive out while the kid contemplates his upcoming drive-by shooting for the rest of the long "graveyard" shift. wasn't me of course... glad your story also had a happy (more or less) ending. just like the airplane - motor oil gets an auto trans a ways down the road... thankfully Rgds, Vince
I accidently put gas in my diesel Excursion They emptied the tank, and had to swap a few injectors Hopefully thats all you'll need
