    Hello

    DIETER STAPPERT sadly passed away

I met him end of the 70s for the very first time. He was such a charismatic and friendly person to speak with. Stappert formed the BMW Formula Junior Team supporting Marc Surer (CH), Eddie Cheever (USA) and Manfred Winkelhock (GER). He was involved in the BMW-Formula-2-team and also the famous and highly competitive BMW-Procar-Series. And the discovered and helped Gerhard Berger, worked very hard to see Nelson Piquet becoming F-1 champion in 1983. He also became editor of the Swiss motorsport magazine Powerslide ... and endless list

    thx Dieter, we'll miss you

OMG, Stappert was such a great guy and a F1 icon in the eighties.

    What happened? Illness?

At any rate, ruhe in Frieden, Dieter.

PS: Powerslide became "motor sport aktuell" and is IMHO THE best source for any F1 news. Once in a while I quote from them.

    Hello

Dieter Stappert suffered a heart attack at the Munich Airport, June 18.

He was on the way to the British MotoGP at Donington due he was team manager of the 250cc Yamaha Indonesia Team.

He was taken to a hospital in Munic-Freising, had been there ever since but didn't awake from coma. Dieter passed away just 4 day after his 66th birthday.

He is one of the most important persons who managed to develop BMW Motorsport to what it is nowadays

whatever he managed or organized, (touring cars, Deutsche Rennsport Meisterschaft DRM, Group-V cars, Formula-I, MotoGP, founding and supporting new talents, journalist, editor, bookwriter ..) - it became a success.

a multi-talent to be highly respected
