What is the difference between the Cromodora and Campy 14" 5 star wheels? Anyone better than the other?

Hi Doug, you beat me to it with your question! Now let's hold hands and wait for the guys to share what they know. For the 14"wheels I think Speedline also produced the five star design. So we have Campagnolo, Cromodora and Speedline. But then the different sizes: 6,5J and 7,5J. And I think that some wheels were magnesium i.s.o Aluminum. And who knows something about the markings on the rim (or the inside)? I've seen Ferrari molded on the inner flange along with the size, but I've also seen completely smooth (and OEM) wheels.

Looks like Ferrari may have given the same mold to 3 different compnies. What about the material used? Magnesuim, alumiinum?

The Speedline is definitely a different mold than the other two. It's most noticeable in the center hub area around the lugs. The speedline appears to have very few, if any, perfectly straight lines from corner to corner, whereas the other two are perfectly straight across aside from the curve around the lug.

    Here's the deal.......(pulling up a chair)

They are all different molds...they don't match each other. I can't speak to alloys used.

Chromodoras have the brand cast in and are the earliest, I believe. They have the softest edges as well as the round corners in the lug area.

Campagnolo cleaned up the mold or made a new one, as they have noticably sharper edges, as you've noted. At some point thhe design was changed to have sharp corners on the inside of the lug area, yielding a sharper "star' to the five spoke appearance.

    Speedline is a third version!

I had pics of all three but lost them. No big deal but you have to be aware that the brands won't 'mix and match"

    HTH.

I have five Chromodoras. And five Champagnolos.
