While looking for replacement pads, I was told that these pads 70002811 & 70002544 are identical for the Italia but they are different compounds. Based on my vin (2010), I was told to use 2811, which run $1455 for the rears! Anyone know what the difference is between these pads? I was told the fronts are 70001668, $1800 for the set. Good lord, just for pads. :(

And to add another wrinkle, just saw another rear pad p/n 70002129 on Scuderia online store. Confusing!

A few years back, when I first purchased my 458 Italia, I contacted Brembo and asked them a bunch of questions about using different compound brake pads on my stock 458 rotors. They were pretty tight lipped (due to these being Ferrari specific part #'s), but they did say that changing compounds was a very, very bad idea and could ruin both your pads and rotors.

That was where my quest to use different brake pads ended...

Thanks Ray for sharing! I pinged a few vendors about other possible pads. The rep from Endless recommended W007 compound, but says they must be used on fresh rotors (or clean rotors) and they won't mix well with surface transfer of other compounds. From what I've gathered, Pagid RSC1 seems to work fine for our cars, and folks seem to be able to transition to these pads fine from stock pads. But I was told these pads are more abrasive and could possibly shorten ceramic rotor life.

What's really odd is that 70002544 is listed as "applicable after depetion of 70002129". When I punch in 70002811, it's listed as a rear brake pad kit for the California (2012-2014), even though the dealer insists that I use this for my Italia.

Which part number for the rear did you end up going with btw?

On a related note, I am wondering if anyone has tried refurbishing their ceramic rotors for the few folks who have used their brakes up. Keeping my fingers crossed that ceramic rotor costs will come down in the future as more and more cars are offered with CCBs.
