I'm looking at buying a 2016-2018 488 and am wondering if there are any differences between model years in terms of reliability or improvements, I realize the body style and interior features are the same? Sometimes first model years have bugs, is the 2016 an ok year to buy? Also wondering about reliability, I bought an F430 earlier this year and had to put 10k into it already, seems like the 488s are pretty well built and have relatively few problems? After having a coolant hose break on the F430, and having to have it towed, I'm looking for a newer model that I don't have to worry about breaking down. There doesn't appear to be many posts about problems in regards to the 488. Thanks for any info.

Notwithstanding the brake and airbag recalls, battery failures seem to be the most common.

I think the 488s are considered to be very reliable. A friend of mine has ~45K miles on his without any issues at all.

488 was made as 2016-2019 model years. There was some talk that the 2019 had a slightly different tune. Dragtimes on YouTube noted this and showed improved 1/4 mile times in 19’s vs others. This is speculation as Ferrari has not officially mentioned this. Other than that they are the same. I love my 488. It looks awesome and drives great…. I’m at 6200ish miles

Thanks for the reply. So no problems with yours, and no worries about getting a first model year 2016 if that's the year I end up finding with the options I'm looking for.

Dragtimes tested the 2019 to be faster than prior model year 488s. He has stated multiple times he thinks the tunes are different with 19s being able to get into the 10s whereas perior years are in the 11s in the 1/4 mile. Not sure this really matters too much since the 488 is a rabid car in general.

I was in your position earlier this year. After much research what I concluded was that it was more about the individual spec of the car followed by km/miles travelled than any model difference. I couldn’t find anything different on the model years other than just that.. the year. Which I will admit is a little different to other manufacturers who have a mid model life refresh. Maybe because the F8 was queued up so fast they didn’t bother? Anyway FWIW I would suggest you work out what interior/exterior colours you want, then what items are a must have .. then sit tight and wait for your perfect spec’d car to appear for sale.. oh and you can extend the warranty on a 2016 car too ..
