To remove the seats, I am using a 6mm allen wrench. I start with the front bolts, the seat being slid all the way back on its track. The right side bolt (from perspective of sitting in the seat) came out on both driver's and passenger seat. Left bolt will not come out from either. They become loose (able to withdraw them about 3mm), but then just spin. The underneath is covered by a riveted on panel so there is no visual. So I slide the seat forward all the way (passenger seat only as the driver's right track seems to encounter something rigid preventing it from moving forward past flush with the forward bolt. It is not hitting a partially removed bolt). Both rear bolts come out of the passenger seat. No rear bolts out in the driver's because they are not exposed where the seat stops sliding forward. From underneath, the rear bolts are visible. Presuming the front "attachments" are configured essentially the same (plus from the feel of stout resistance and then easy turning of the front bolts that won't come out; and the sound it makes when this occurs), I'm guessing the "nut" that the bolt threads into is spinning in the crimped tabs that are supposed to be holding it in place.

My questions are: is there something additional required besides using the seat adjustment bar to slide the driver's seat fully forward? What suggestions can you make for removing the front bolts (the left one on both seats) that currently just spin?

I cannot recall exactly but at least one bolt has a nut which needs accessing from thro a small hole underneath the car

On my '81, the bolts were are real PITA to get to and very slow going but they eventually all came right out. No nuts were holding anything.

Time to check the Parts Manual .......... hmmmmmmmmmmmm

This might be a silly suggestion, but I just took the seats out by removing the bolts in the rails. The nuts are welded into the chassis so shouldn't spin!!!

Bob take some pics of your problem, that always helps us help you mate.

On the Euro that was there they were indeed NOT welded. The underneath bolts were in a small 'cage' that went around them. Problem is, the cage easily bends and thus the underneath bolts spin thus making it impossible to unscrew. What i did was knock out the 'cage' so i could fold it out and then attach a socket wrench under the car for the bolt and then loosed the top hex accordingly. Best bet is to replace the bolt with a new one for good measure and use a new self-locking bolt underneath.

I wasn't clear about that description. I am removing the "rail" (track) bolts. I will expose the nut underneath by bending the cage tabs out as you suggest Steven.

Well that's a real pain. On my '78 they just unbolted right from the top with no issues. I guess maybe I was just lucky!?

As for sliding far enough forward I had to really force one of mine just because it never goes that far forward and the track was all mucked up. You might check just to make sure that the front bolts are down tight, it doesn't take much for them to interfere. Other than that it could be something broken or loose in the track itself. My passenger seat track was broken.

Maybe time to drill out the rivets, holding the lower panel?

    The floor is fibreglass.....

Depends entirely on the rust on the bolt threads...and if any penetrant was used to help out....

Like I said I must have been lucky. I didn't use any oil or anything, just unbolted them and bolted 'em back in.
