    Hi

Started my 400i 1983 just for a warm up and the engine stopped. The digiplex has stopped making its whining noise - checked the connection into it -it wasnt loose. It seems dead.

I know the Digiplex is a solid unit that is not an easy repair being filled with epoxy resin.

I cannot tell from the handbook if theres a fuse or relay that could be the issue.

Has anyone got a check list for this problem to ensure it is the Digiplex that is gone?

I looked into MSD replacement unit a few years ago on my other 400i is this still the way to go or is there a better solution now?

Bummer! Just curious, mine makes the same whining noise...is this typical?
Unfortunately, my wiring manual is at another home so I only had access to it here...

    http://www.400register.com/manuals/400i-manuals.asp

From what I can see, there is no fuse or relay that feeds the Dinoplex.

The main feed to the Dinoplex comes from connector F (2nd connector from the left @ bottom of the relay / fuse panel), 5th wire from the left on connector F (Red). If I remember correctly, it's a pretty heavy duty wire (large gauge).

I couldn't trace the wiring route within the relay panel because of the lack of clarity on the PDF file. I would start by pulling the connector off the Dinoplex (with the ignition OFF), then turn the ignition key ON, then check to see if you have 12 Volts at the red pin on the connector. If you do, my guess is...the Dinoplex is shot!

If you don't have 12 V. @ the connector (I think that would be a good thing), I'd pull the F connector off the Relay Panel to see if you have 12 V. at the pin that feeds the Red wire on the F connector. If you do, the Red wire feeding the Dinoplex is compromised. If you don't have 12 V., then its got to be inside the Relay Panel.

Another suggestion (& I may be a little over cautious here)...when removing or reinstalling connectors, I'd do it with power OFF.

I've heard many times in the past about the inherent heat that builds up in these panels, I believe Birdman has fabricated upgraded panels for Testarossas.

Being that the feed to the Dinoplex doesn't go through a fuse or relay, it could be the connections within the relay panel, maybe resoldering...I don't know.

Sorry I couldn't be of more help at this point.

    Edit:
I forgot to include this source if you want to go the Dinoplex rebuild route...

After a search to make sure I wasn't mistaken between Dinoplex & Digiplex, I discovered the download post you brought to our attention back in Nov., 2011. I don't know how I missed that one but thanks!
I must of got the wires crossed on the schematic (not hard to do) but it appears from the Dinoplex download that the 'hot' feed is through the yellow wire from the ignition switch, so ignore the red wire I mentioned. I'll trace it down further & post.

Looks like the Yellow wire (+12 V) comes from the ignition switch & makes connection on the coil & then to the Dinoplex. Instead of disconnecting the connector @ the Dinoplex, check for +12 V at the coil (where 2 Yellow wires connect), & while your there, be sure that connection is tight.
Also, a plug & play option from dinoplex.org site.
