    Hey all,

I'm trying to understand if the digiplex boxes retard the timing when the slow down lights come on . .. and what device #128 does in wire schematic?

The slow down light is on for one of the banks on this 308 I just picked up and she feels pretty sluggish but last tags are 1999 :) Obviously this could be a ton of things including "that's how it is" since I'm use to my other motor :)

Regarding the digiplex system . . . there's a device "128" electronic speed switch which looks to be tied to #'s 126 & 127 (warning control units) . . .. this device is also wired to output "10" of the digiplex boxes which in WSM says is tach signal? Output from the digiplex I would expect right?

The digiplex boxes retard the timing during warm up via signal from switch on expansion tank . . . . is it possible the boxes retard timing when they are not seeing the correct signal at pin 10 or is this definitely only an output from the digipliex box to this 128 device . .. could look for proper ground thru 128 thus acting as an input? Maybe this device (128) then talks to 126 and 127 and only turns the lights on when engine rpm is over some threshold? I've never seen these lights come on in "real time" . .. always been "on" or completely disconnected :(

Anyone got nothing better to do than contemplate the finer points of digiplex? :)

When I switched to the Haltech on the other 308 the advance curve made a massive improvement in performance . .. US vs. euro injected lacks about 5 degrees advance at full throttle if I'm reading the curves right in the WSM . . . taking back that 5 deg alone will make a big difference in 2Vi performance I bet . .. this experience got me wondering if the boxes are retarding the advance even further when the "slow down" h'ware is removed?

    Thanks,

    Sean

Guess all I need to do is unhook the vacum line, rev the motor up and read the advance.

Further study reveals that device 127 is for turning the egr on/off just like the schematic says . .. thought I was seeing conflicting info in WSM but was for 4v control.

Interesting thing in the WSM that is conflicting is the full advance they refer to in the table for USA 2Vi . . .. value isn't what graphs represent . . . there is instant torque to be gained here if there is only 32 deg advance at full throttle like graph says :). They probably did this to help stop CAT melt down eh?

A little searching . .. 38 -40 deg on early carb cars seems to be the concensus . . . I had 42 deg when I first hooked up the Haltech system with a low compression motor. I think we'll see some decent power gains in just this upgrade.

I think the Haltech system I'm using on the other car is one of the cleanest ways to drive two dizzy's and program your own advance curve . . . any thoughts on other hardware options out there? Seems like these other boxes/systems you guys are using are more for single dizzy app's except for Electromotive which is way more expensive than the Haltech.

    Thanks,

    Sean
