Yesterday, I was installing new lights in the garage, I had my most receintly purchassed 85 308GTSi with the top off and my original 42,ooo mile 68 Shelby GT500 parked infront of the garage when it began to rain....

I was faced with a difficult choice, which one do I put in the garage first?
The 308 GTSi Ferrari with the top off and the leather interior or,
The Shelby GT500 which has never been in the rain?

Normally I would do the one that has most value or most expensive or even the one that has a centimental value to me. But personally I would do the Ferrari first then haul a** to the Shelby since Im an F cars lover.

I'd move the Ferrari first because of the open top. A few rain drops won't hurt the Shelby , just wipe it down immediately. (I doubt the Shelby has NEVER seen rain- unless you're the original owner, how will a few raindrops hurt the value ?, how would anyone else know ?)

Rain drops and washing are the same thing to me. The reason not to drive a car in the rain is to not get the underside of the car dirty or get water splashed up into nooks & crannies. The leather & electrics of the F-car is more important.

Simple answer: You need a bigger garage. ;)

In FL, however, cover the open top first. FL rain bursts can fill that car to the door tops in thirty seconds flat.

And it'll have stopped raining by the time you get the Shelby started. :p

Totally agree. If you wipe it down once you get it in the garage it will make no difference whether it was in the rain for 60 seconds or getting hosed down for several minutes after washing it. I would definetly be more worried about a 3-6K interior than 5 minutes of drying time.

All great answers, I shouted to the wife just as the skies opened up, and got them both safely in the garage, drying took more than a quick wipe down.

    I got Lucky!

Or you could sell that piece of junk 68 and buy a 67.

Don't worry I've told you before, neither will shrink in the wet.

Of course you could move back to California. We won't have rain until my birthday.

You have to admit the 68 has that great looking simulated wood grain dash and door panels!
Car wise... the 68 dosen't have the 2 little tiny 4 barrels that leak gas all over the engine, it has one big Holley that leaks, however the 68's do have better fit and finish of the Shelby's plastic parts

Hemi? You want one of those you better fix more transmitters. In case you haven't noticed those things go for real money now.

By the way, where did the Douglas crap come from? Last time I heard that, I was 8, Mom was calling and she was pissed.

Yea, just when you thought it couldn't get worse, you find there are two of us. I used the name Douglas when I signed up because I noticed there was already a Doug here in the Florida Ferrari Chat.

Don't confuse our knowledge though, I know nothing about Ferrari's, but trying to learn quickly, I am very lucky though to have a brother who knows just about everything about every Ferrari and already been an increadiable help to me.

Brian was right about the name Douglas, about the only one who ever called me Douglas was when mom cought me at something....now that I think of it, she called me Douglas a lot.

What Holley leaks?... from my expirence any Holley with fuel in it.

It is understandable though, Holleys have more fuel connections, and cross connects, and pumps, and gadgets all over them than any other carb.

I am lucky I guess, My Holleys don't leak/weep as much as some I have seen , mine are just enought to be unsightly at a show. Course I almost don't drive my carbed cars, they just sit in the garage with the battery waiting it's turn to die.

On the Shelby's Holley, which was restored at a Holley restoration shop a few years ago, I have to "Q" tip with laquor thinner the carb and manifold when ever I show it. I have a couple of Holleys on one of my boats, and notice more weeping on them than the two Rochester Q jets on one of the other boats.

The Holleys even weep more than my 40 year old Carter AFB's with Paxton superchargers blowing into them.

    Doug
