Ferrari reported the best kind of earnings news: a 60% year-over-year increase in profit, along with an eye-popping 21.6% EBIT profit margin. ("EBIT" is earnings before interest and taxes.) That latter number is simply stunning for an automaker, but it's not a fluke: It's simply clear evidence of Ferrari's tremendous pricing power -- a power that CEO Sergio Marchionne is determined to exercise fully.

At this point, who cares? The prancing horse has been slapped on everything from underwear to amusement parks...and that didn't start under Marchionne.

Ferrari is a luxury brand. Leveraging the brand will be the main priority going forward.

See how it plays out for them in the long run.

How much more production is being considered? I though that Sergio Marchionne increased production from 7000 to 9000 per year. I toured the factory two weeks ago and they don't say what the yearly production is but from the daily output, they are at about 9000 per year. (25-28 V-8s per day, 5-8 V-12s per day...in order to meet whatever the goal is, they are working a couple of Saturdays per month and assembling some California models upstairs on the V-12 line.
