Hi, I bought a new set of wheels (regular 16'' replicas). The front wheels does not fit to hubs due to a dimensional difference between the hub and the wheel. The supplier is willing to send me 2 new reworked rims but I also wonder if my car is still original in this regard. It's a 1978 308 GTS US-Spec.. During assembly the wheels are centered by a diameter on 58.0mm on the hub. This goes into the second step of the rim which is 57,75 at the moment and thus won't slip onto the hub. The rear wheels are centered by the first step of the rim which fits fine (approx. 68mm). If we rework to the diameter of the rim from 50,75 to 58.06 (+0,04), would this be as it should be (aka. when it was new)? Thanks Marc Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
FWIW when I purchased a set of 16 inch rims from superformance. They came with the center hub spacer for the front hub.… not sure where you purchased your rims from…… (1982 308GTSi)
I bought it from maxilite, they look quite similar to the superformance parts, maybe even the samemanufacturer, but opposed to these they have a local permission for Germany. If I understand you right, you received 2 metal rings which fit onto the 58mm of the hub and the 68mm (?) part on the wheel?! Then there should be no 57,75mm step inside your wheels - correct?
The front hub is 58.1mm and the rear hub is 67.1mm. If the "second step" in your wheel is only 57.75mm, then I would suggest 1 of the following: 1-Take the wheel to a wheel shop and have them bore the "second step" to 58.1mm on a wheel machine 2-Bore it out yourself with a circular sanding bit enough to clear the hub, then use a 58.1-67.1 hub centric ring adaptor on the 67.1mm step. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08MDGPYJZ?ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_details&th=1
Thank you for your suggestion, interesting, I id not know these adaptor rings. The supplier will send me re-machined new rims to fit on my hub if I tell him which dimension to machine. My initial question was how the original rims looked like. The car probably was delivered with 14'' rims, later the 16'' rims could be ordered as an option. I don't know exactly since when. My car was equipped with different 3rd party 16'' rims with combined 67 and 58mm clearance.
The original wheels have a 2 step hub bore (67.1mm and 58.1mm) that enables you to "rotate" the wheels front to rear. That is why the 58.1mm hub on the front spindle is "deeper" than the 67.1mm "lip" on the rear hub. I would have the supplier send you re machined wheels. Make sure you give them the depth of the 67.1mm hub lip on the rear.
