Going to the Florida Keys - any recommendations on dining? Bringing wife and kids, never been...I'm excited!
Homestead has a great BBQ place called Shivers, very folksy but ribs are amazing There's a famous place in Isla Morada on way south Mostly it's casual sea food places
How far down are you going? It's a long road. If you are going all the way to Key West, I like Blue Heaven. Fun, funky, very much Key West, etc. The Conch House in Key Largo is good. If Morada Bay in Islamorada is still open (and Philipe's right next door) it is a nice setting, especially at night for dinner
It is still open, great sunsets too. My parents have a house in Key West, if you go that far I can give you some good choices.
I've been to the Keys many times and the only restaurant I can recommend without reservation (although you'll need them ) is Pisces in Key West, although it may not be a place your kids would enjoy. Mile Marker 42 used to be excellent, but it's been many years since I was there, so cannot recommend. Perhaps someone else here has had a more recent experience.
I hear it's mostly at night, but we'll keep an eye out. I'm so overwhelmed with work and other activities that I never thought about it until after we booked...
I can recommend Louie's backyard in KW. We had our wedding dinner there and everything was outstanding.
Good to know - thanks. We're not overly concerned, my kids are taught "live and let live", it's just the over the top stuff I'd be worried about.
Pierre's(SP?) in Islamorada next to Morada Bay or Louis in Key West - lived in Isamorada for 35 years - pm me for more info
There is a restaurant on the water on the right around mile marker 50 as you drive to KW. . I'm not sure which key but I think the name is sunset cove grill . The food isn't spectacular or anything but its open air directly on the water. Great view. A visit to Blue Heaven in KW for breakfast/lunch is mandatory.
It's been a few years, but the last time I was in Key West, my dad and I had a delightful dinner, outside under the stars, at Kelly's Caribbean Grill. I believe that it is still there and still owned by actress Kelly McGillis of "Top Gun" fame. The building was once Pan American Airway's Key West headquarters, so it has historical value as well.
In Key West I would recommend 2. A&B Lobster House (upstairs) Latitudes on Sunset Key (the island at the end of Duval)....nice place with great food....you MUST make a reservation- theres a boat that takes you over there.
Lazy days mile marker 82 Oceanside just north of bud n Mary's. If you're bored before the reservation swing by Robbie's on the south side of the bridge and feed the tarpon. Also +1 to the people who said cheeca lodge and the conch house .. Both are places we hit when were down there. lazy days jalapeño encrusted mahi and conch lazy style are the best in the keys!
In Key West número uno Louie's Backyard . Número dos Latitudes on Sunset Key . Both are great choices . You will be happy .
Another vote for Latitudes, esp. if you can find alone time for dinner with wife. Try to get res time near sunset.
P.s. 5 Brothers on Southard for a morning bucci/buchi (Cuban espresso)! And, their location on Summerland Key is also a great place for a Cuban sandwich.
