i may have a dinner date in new york city, manhattan area. i've been there a few times, but don't remember any restaurants. i'd like a casual place, no ritz or stuffiness. doesn't matter what kind of food...any recommendations?

Do a search in this forum.
There are a lot of threads on this topic.
And look for the one where Dave Noto publishes his favorite places.
    They're on-the-money!

    Thanks guys ;)

I would agree with the lists above, but depends on how much you want to spend as well. The majority of the restaurants listed are going to cost you about $40-$50 per person with no drinks.

There are a lot of posts about NYC restaurants if you do a search, but if you want a better idea of where you would like to go, give your price range, the type of food (Italian, Japanese, Chinese, etc.), the ambiance (romantic, trendy, quiet, etc.), and the part of town (midtown, meat packing, soho, etc. thinking about what you want to do after dinner like bars or play or whatever so you can walk there after).

If you limit your search, I'm sure we can direct you to exactly what you are looking for ;)
