Yesterday I was reading "Dino. Les autres Ferrari" by Jean-Pierre Gabriel (quite difficult if you have no more than an elementary understanding of French!). On pages 242 - 243 there is some info and pictures of a 206 GT Dino with serial number 10523. First I was puzzled since this is clearly in the Dino 308 GT4 range of serial numbers, but in the text it was explained that this number is in the Ferrari serial number range.

Can anyone confirm this? Why does this Dino have a serial number in the Ferrari range? Any more info would be welcome.

    See Denny Schue's Dino site:

    http://www.dinoregister.com/production.html

    To quote:

"S/N 10523 The first production prototype built at Scaglietti.

(1ST production This car had side vent windows which the earlier prototype) Pininfarina prototypes did not have. The only Dino which was numbered with an "odd" chassis number. It is an apparent coincidence this car was numbered with the PF work order no.10523 used on the 206S 034 mentioned above. The Ferrari factory says these two cars had nothing in common."

Read the page for reference to the PF job number 10523 for chassis number 034

    Cheers
    Andrew

It seems that this car was given a normal Ferrari chassis number in 1967. Raab lists 10523 as a 275 GTB/4 but I think this is a typo.

keep in mind that the ferrari and dino lines were very different at first in terms on serial numbers. i would bet that ithe same s/n could be used on a ferrari (such as the 275) and the dino prototype prior to dinos taking on only odd numbers.
