Some late night surfing came across this Dino 206GT which came up for sale at a small auction in Alberta this past summer. The car did not sell (bid $125K vs. ask $185K). The link below has some interesting pictures of the car being restored. Not exactly the place I would expect to find a fairly rare Ferrari for sale!

The auction is in a small town outside of Calgary which is over a million people, so not as odd as it seems. The Okotoks auction is the oldest running collector car auction in Canada.

This 206 owner has had many cars over the years from both small and big block Cobras to a McLaren M6B.

Actually, I grew up in Toronto and used to go to the RM auctions in the spring and fall. I had never heard of this auction and so it must be more well known on the west coast. You learn something new every day!

I agree that Calgary is a big place relatively speaking and when oil prices are strong and the economy is booming, I'm sure there are some serious cars that make their way into the hands of enthusiasts in that area.

    Cheers...Keith

Very cool, I remember seeing this exact Dino one early Saturday morning in 1999 on a back road blast in the foothills south of Calgary!

The Okotoks collector car action was started decades ago by Dr. Grant Hill, a physician who later went on to become a MP in the fledgling Reform party. Even when serving in Parliament, he kept up his practice in Okotoks. Dr. Hill was a genuine enthusiast, and notable of the few cars I recall him owning were a Mercedes Gullwing and, IIRC, a genuine 427 Cobra.

Calgary definitely has a booming exotic car ownership (maybe not booming so much anymore ;) !) There are a few Enzos here, an MC12, lots of old and new V8 and V12 Ferraris, quite a few Lamborghinis. It's not so much Cowtown anymore...
