    Fellow Dino Owners –

I now have Dino schematics with color codes available for sale. The schematic has been completely redrawn in Photoshop to the original specification, and hence no longer represents a “scan” of the original. The purpose of this exercise (redrawing) was to provide optimum resolution of enlargement. I am quite confident of the accuracy of the project.

I have completed tracing the entire wiring harness on my Dino (2900- U.S.), and assembled a new harness for my restoration project. In addition, I have a 2nd Dino (3002 U.S.) with 8,000 original miles that I used for confirmation. I had a 3rd Dino (2832- European Model) several years ago and documented all wires entering the fuse and relay area. Finally, a friend down the street has an earlier Dino (1971-European Model) that I used for final verification. Thus, four Dinos confirm the consistency of the manufacturer’s wiring color code. There are “errors” on the original schematic that I have left in place, with appropriate footnotes to alert the observer. These errors fall into two classes: 1) those that reveal a discrepancy between factory assembly and the schematic diagram but are functionally equivalent and 2) those that deviate from the original schematic and are not electrically equivalent.

The schematic that I am making available has, in addition to the color definitions, numerical indication of where each wire terminates at the fuse box. I have come to conclude that the reason Ferrari never published a color chart is that the schematic provided in the owner’s manual and workshop manual is a “functional” schematic and not one that reflects the physical termination of each wire. For example, the schematic might suggest that a single wire terminates at a fuse while, in fact, 4 wires terminate at the fuse. I have numbered these wires to designate where they terminate.

Many hours of work have gone into this project. The schematics are available for $160, which includes 1) laminated 11” x 17” enlargement, 2) 8” x 11” non-laminated version, 3) 11” x 17” laminated enlargement of fuse and legend page from the owner’s manual, 4) Compact Disc of DinoSchematic.tif image, and postage. If errors are identified in my rendition, I will correct these errors and make available an update to those who purchase. This update will be delivered in electronic format. This is a joint project of my eldest son (studying electrical engineering), my middle child (with better eyes than I), and my youngest son (with better ears…to hear the beep from the continuity tester). Their old man supervised.

Please e-mail with questions or orders.

Very cool. I wanted to undertake this myself, but you and your kids just saved me a million hours.

    I'm in!!

    Will you take Paypal?

Dave - thanks for the feedback. I will include a .pdf file as well as the .tif . Let me do some homework concerning PayPal.

I hope the price is considered fair. Most of this covers cost, including postage, laminating, printing, etc., and a little for the kids.

If you e-mail me, please provide name, address, e-mail. I will keep a database to provide for electronic updates in the future, should they be necessary.

    Thanks.

Have you checked the with later Dinos?
The four cars you mentioned seem to be early ones.

I also noticed the multiple wire termination at the fuse box on a recent attempt to diagnose it one of my Dinos.

BTW, you should see the owners manual for my Maserati Bora, as all the wiring colour coding has already been done. It is coloured by subsystem AND is correct in every instance that I've examined it over that last 18 years.

Jim- I just received your schematic in the mail. I checked the wiring & it looks great. I found it easy to read & the laminated copy along with the disc are just great to have. I t is worth every penny of the small purchase price. Thanks for the effort & expertise you put into that project. I guess that electrical engineering degree came in handy!! Thanks TC

Tom - thanks for the feedback. (The publishing of my credentials, Tom, was only to impart a sense of competence in those who don't know me and wonder, "Who this guy is playing with all the wires?").

Synchro - unfortunately, I only have a limited number of Dinos at my fingertips to compare. Accordingly, as owners purchase the schematic and send feedback, I will incorporate them in the PhotoShop file and update with addendums (I refrain from referring to them as "errata" as they represent deviations rather than errors).

My next task will be to add color to the printout. This will require creating "vectors" of each line in PhotoShop, another monumental task. Once they are vectors, then I can color each wire according to its actual color. Dave M. has volunteered to help, but I do not want to impose upon him, and hence will attack it along the way.

    Thanks for all the feedback.

Ineed one ASAP. My Paypal account is down for a couple of days -- a little tinkering by my 14-year old involving soccer equipment. I'm good for it, though! Should be cleared up by Weds.

Mike - no problem. I can e-mail a pdf file. It will take a day or two to send out the enlarged version and the disk.

I will find your e-mail and send it along its way.

    Dignini,

the E-series schematics in the link above are color coded in groups based on their function (e.g. headlights, indicators, battery +12V, etc) to make troubleshooting and repairs easy if something should fail.
This is a different approach to the factory wiring schematics (no colors at all) and Jim's schematics (factory wiring colors), so which schematic is the right one for you depends on what you want to do. In fact, Jim's schematics and mine should complement each other nicely.

    Best,
    Adrian

I am trying to figure out how to place the document (17 meg) on the site for others to download, or a link to a site to download. If anyone has such a link, I can send the file and you can place the shared link. More to come.

One note about Paypal. It is the profit center behind eBay because of their high fees.

When I sent out the schematics to interested parties several years ago I charged a fee for copying, laminating, postage, and to encourage my kids to keep working.

I will place the link on F-Chat for everyone to download, but I suggest that you print out a large copy and laminate for work around the car.

Here is the link to the schematic .... thank you Adrien for hosting the file on DinoPlex.org.

    http://www.dinoplex.org/jims/Dino_Schematic_final.pdf

Please note- the numbers listed on the left side of the schematic; 1-8 and 9-16, delineate the color of the wires entering the fuse block. The schematic, as drawn from the factory, is more of a functional diagram than a schematic. In particular, all of the wires entering the fuse block are not drawn. I have attempted to ease the diagnostic approach to solving an electrical problem by listing all of the colors entering the fuse blocks.

Where a wire, distant to the fuse block on the diagram, physically continues to the fuse block in the car, I have numbered it with the corresponding fuse number as well.

    Hope this makes sense.
