I just got an email from Coker offering the XDX Michelin tires at a discount. So, my question is, XDX XWX, whatever should I do?

I know the XWX was original equiptment, but the XDX is also V rated and has a slightly different tread pattern, both are 205/70-14.

I don't know enough about tires to make a completely intelligent decision on this, and would like some serious input.

Would the XDX cost me a point at a concours? How about handling?

Tread wear is not an issue.

    Thanks,

I guess I am an XWX man when it comes to eveyday tires on the Dino's. I don't no what the spread is between the XDX and the XWX. If I am going to go for performance I would keep a set of 15" rims with the Michelin TB5 tires that have come out and throw those on when I get the urge for "spirited" driving. The XWX's should be a little more that adequate for fast street driving IMHO and be the correct tire for the car.
On the Dino tire deal with Coker, why not present the deal to some of the other 12 cylinder boys that used them also? Didn't the 330's and a few others run the same tire? I am still in for a set!

DM: My name is Jerry, and i also work at Coker. i'm pretty much the go to for the ferrari stuff here. To answer your questions, the XDX would cost you points at a concours, but as far as handling and tread wear they are pretty much equal. and also the XDX has been discountinued by Michelin so they are going to be an older tire than the XWX. It really comes down to preference, if you are worried about the points then definatley go with the XWX, but if you're just looking for a better deal then the XDX would be fine. If you have any questions and want to talk with someone my Ext. is 256, and our phone# is 1-800-251-6336.

i am not convinced that you get points deducted at concours. at least not the fca standards (iapfa or what ever it is). pebble yeah i would believe that. i know guys who got platimum at cavallino and have yokos. same goes for pirelli. the issue is size. there are judges on this board. i would ask them. write to ed gilbertson. tires are wear items like batteries. you aren't expected to have a battery that is the same as the one it left the factory with. color change is allowed in fca judging also. as long as it was a color offered for your car at the time it was new it is irrelevant that it wasn't on your car when it left the factory.

Surely XWX is the go. XDX looks as though it should be on a truck..........
