    Hi Dino petrol heads,

I need a helping hand and hope that some of your Dino experts can assist me.

I am helping a friend assembling his newly overhauled dino 246 L series and are having problems connecting up the wires to the ignition system. I believe that part of the ignition system is a aftermarket product.

I have tried the search function with not much luck, since I cannot find any ignition system like the one in my friends Dino.

It appears that the system consists of 4 main components (Please see pictures below):

    1. distributor with old style points (Blue wire going out of distributor).
    2. Black aluminum box with 6 cooling fins and the brand name "Dinoparts" on it and also a red LCD lamp (Black, red, gray and earth wire going out of this box)
    3. Small black cube with 3 wire coming out of the bottom (Yellow, black and blue wire).
    4. Beru coil marked "ZS 106" (Plus, minus and high voltage terminals on coil)

Can anyone guide me through the connection procedures or provide me with a link to a diagram for this type of ignition.

    Best regards

    Peter

Throw it all away except the part that looks like a ballast resistor, look up coil specs to see if it requires said resistor and it will tell you how many ohms are required. Chect out all threads on point and timing procedures and set up dist on a distributor machine, see that thread
    luck

    Peter,

Position 2. is the tach adapter, which converts the coil signal from terminal '1' (minus) into a compatible signal for the Veglia electronic tach. The yellow wire from the adapter module goes to the brown wire of the car's wiring, the blue wire to ground and the black wire to coil terminal '1'.

Position 3. is a transistor ignition module made by Helotronik in Germany. The red wire goes to the car's +12V wiring (yellow, going to coil '+'), grey to the distributors screw terminal (blue wire) and black to coil '-'. The screw terminal on the black heatsink needs to be connected to ground. The integrated LED will turn on when the contacts in the distributor are closed. Below is the original german installation chart from the manufacturer.

Position 4. is a replacement for a Bosch blue coil made by Beru. The Beru ZS106 coil does not require a ballast resistor.

The original ignition for an L Series Dino is a Dinoplex C AEC 101 DA with a Marelli BZR 205A coil.

    good luck,
    Adrian

I din't know anything about the dinoparts system but I seem to remember that you can't earth anything to that back panel everything is mounted on - unless it is also earthed

Correct remembered. Everything is bolted into glass fiber so I have run a specific ground wire from the cars steel frame to the central ground point all the ignition components connects to.
